Hours, charges, etc. will be announced prior to the opening. J. L. Casey Bown, public information officer for the Utah F ish and Game Department, met April 26th with the Salina Lions Club, on their invitation, to discuss the pros and cons of the sale of special antlerless deer permits for the 1961 season in Salma. In 1960, a special ruling of the Board of Big Game Control put the permits for the area on sale only in Richfield, and through the department offices. Through actions of the Lions Club, a portion of these permits were returned to the local Salina sales office for distribution. In order to prevent this same situation in the coming season, the early meeting was scheduled. Club members and representatives of the business that serve the sporting public, who were guests at the meeting, expressed cooperation with the game department, but were clear in their decision to have the special permits on sale in Salina for those hunters who headquarter here. Mr. Bown stated such matters were brought before the Board of Big Game Control at their five annual district meetings. He suggested the pertinent points be written to the Fish and Game Commission, and also presented by a local representative at the area meeting. This meeting will be held June 22nd in Richfield. Arlon Nielson, representing the Feerless Furniture and Hardware, and the only license sales office in Salina, stated the license sales in 1960 was $23,000 less at his place of business than in 1959. This amount, it was pointed out, is a big loss to the state department and the sportsmen of Utah. Where it is not positive that the special permit sale transfer caused the decline, fault points in that direction. Mr. Bown explained the department would do nothing to harm the economics of the area in fact, it was interested in the opposit, and if the local citizens would present their case, with supporting facts, he felt the special permits would be sold through the Salina license office. ghter of Mr. and Mrs. Glen Gurr.
