Now, dont think all of. Utah and Sevier County is tumbled down and unsightly, because a lot of improvement has .been done. Lets list these landscape improvements in Sevier County. Starting in Redmond: Since the baby hurricane of several years ago, .Redmond has done a lot of cleaning up and improvement of streets and homes. In' 1956, Redmond planned and organized a community improvement program in cooperation with Utah State University and the Sevier County Extension Service. Landscape Improvement was selected as one of the main projects. Milo Bosshardt is community chairman, and Carl Anderson is Landscape Improvement chairman. In addition to the general community improvement activities on grading and oiling streets, controlling weeds, etc'., three landscape demonstration home projects are underway. These home landscape cooperators are Mr. and Mrs. Marwood Hales, Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Hansen and Mr. and 'Mrs. Carl Anderson. Landscape plans for tvese homes were drawn up by County Agent, Lee Guymon. Considerable planting has been done around the Hales home. The Hansens have planted some trees and built a new outdoor fire place this past Summer. The have cleaned up the Let Your Check Book . . . Three community projects are the old rock Town Hall, City Park, and Church grounds. Plans were drawn for the Town Hall and City Park, and a few plantings made. The Church grounds are being filled in and leveled, in preparation for planting. Other home owners have improved their homes, and keep them neat and attractive, and some others are making improvements. With continued effort through this landscape improvement program, it is hoped that more and more Redmond citizens will catch the spirit of personal and community pride, improve their own home, and cooperate in additional community landscape improvement. Much can be done through working together without spending undue amounts of money. Lets all get behind the spirit of interest and pride in landscape improvement throughout Sevier County. It will pay off in property values, pleasure and personal satisfaction. Watch for more landscape improvement listings next week. Support Local Advertisers It Pays I Bar-Tac- coun-cilme- the week end. Mrs. Evan Smith has been named chairman of the annual Gift Shop" for the Salina American Legion Auxiliary, and announces the American Legion Civic Center will be open to receive gifts or contributions of cash November 6th, between the hours of 7 and 9 p.m. The Gift Shop is operated each year to enable hospitalized veterans to provide Christmas gifts for members of their families. All gifts must be new, with the following suggested items: aprons, jewelry, towel sets, pillow cases, novelty gifts, toys, belts, games, ladies hose, pen and pencil sets, wallets, purses, stationery, hankies, ties, cuff links, key cases, mens hose, sewing kits, crocheted articles, and things for or any articles of childrens clothing. No articles of glass are requested, because of breakage in shipping. Money can be substituted in place of articles. In Utah, the Gift Shops are operated at the 12th Avenue Hospital and the Fort Douglas Hospital. Mrs. Smith, in urging local cooperation on this project, stated we owe a great deal to these veterans, who have sacrificed their health in the defense of their country. Here we can help in a little way by contributing gifts the veterans can give to their family at Christmas time. He attempted to show these tourists the nice homes and more attractive places in our area, but it seemed that about all they could see and talk about was the old and unsightly barns, corrals and homes they saw in their Utah travels. Well, the purpose here is not to bend over backward and overexaggerate these unsightly scenes. However, we must admit that we have too many of these old, unsightly, useless buildings and places in our neighborhoods. Tourists see and make a lot of uncomplimentary remarks about these unsightly spots. At least most of our progressive citizens realize that this unfavorable publicity is not good for Utah and our own Sevier County. More and more tourists are traveling up and down Highway 89. Why cant more be done about improving Utahs domestic landscapes? It is no doubt a lack of personal and community pride and aggressive leadership on a wide front. Do you remember how much paint was spread over Utah during the 1947 Centennial year? Also, the cleaning up and fixing up that was done? Maybe we need another centennial push. 6 Page ot Yes, ii, un Ho" Service News Phone JA 9-77- 41 WE DELIVER un inmmanci Secret Romance Is there a mother anywhere who cant remember a scene like this?
