Girls State, which will be held at Southern Utah State College in Cedar City the week of June 5th through June 11th Six of the girls will represent the Salma Unit -- 36 and one will Redmond represent -- Unit 118 The girls are Denise Jensen, daughter of Mr and Mrs Jack Brenda Larsen, Jensen, daughter of Mayor and Mrs Courtney Larsen, Vemse Larson, daughter of Mr and Mrs Bud Larson, Shauna Olsen, Laurie Robins s Fir and Mrs Mel Laurie Robins, daughter of Mr and Mrs Bob Wilson, Robins, Cindy daughter of Mr and Mrs Delmar Wilson, all of Salma, and Natalie Shaw, daughter of Mr and Mrs W'ayland Shaw, of daughter of Mr Edwards, Aurora The girls have to pay their own expenses, and any business or person wanting to contribute to help these girls are asked to notify Virginia Conder, 529 7783, or for herself that gover nment is just what she makes it They apply for, and are ap pointed to, the various appoin tive positions in the State government They perform the Explosion, Fire Demolish Home Salina Man Under Investigation Roger C Behunin, 35, of Salina, is in the Utah Valley Hospital in Provo suffering from facial injuries and second degree burns about the thighs suffered in a fire and explosion at the home of his mother in law, Mrs Maurine Cook, in Fairview, early Wednesday morning of last week Mrs Cook was at the home of her daughter, Kay Lou Behunin, in Salina, at the time of the fire Sanpete County Attorney Jack McAllister and Sanpete County Sheriff Jim Allred are conducting an investigation Mrs Behunin reported Monday that the County Attorney had notified her that charges of aggravated arsen, burglary, and theft had been filed against the burn victim Gasoline and paint thinner were discovered to have been spread throughout the home, and it was felt they had been ignited when the fur nace sparked The fire and ex plosion followed and caught Behunin inside the home A neighbor, Doug McNeil, reported he heard two ex plosions and was first on the scene He stated he found a man, whose clothes apparently had been blown from his body and who was badly burned lying on the driveway close to the home He was later iden tified as Behunin The explosion occurred a few minutes before midnight The home, a white brick structure, was only five years old It was completely gutted but an estimate of the damages has not yet been completed The inside was completely burned with the exception of two bedrooms on the west wing However, these two rooms were severely damaged by smoke The explosion shattered the back and side wall, and the floors were destroyed Ceiling beams were burnpd but the fire did not completely destroy the roof Windows were broken and furniture and other valuables were consumed by the intense blaze It was expressed the building was a complete loss and could not be repaired For ce of the blast lifted the entire roof from the home, and it set tied back at an angle Some valuables from the home are still missing and some had been found packed in suitcases apparently ready for removal Mrs Behunin had filed for divorce prior to the fire at the home of her mother duties of their various elective and appointive offices Thev hold courts w ith City hospital after a long illness He was a resident of Bountiful where he had lived since he and his wife retired from the teaching profession Mr Sorensen was born April 4 1907 in Redmond the son of closing song Abide With Me Ward Choir benediction, Marvin Jensen Burial was in the Redmond Peterson Cemeterv by Hans and Amalia Nilsson Sorensen He attended the place schools in Redmond and Salina and graduated from Brigham Young University He began a teaching career that spanned 44 years His first assignment was at the Salina Junior High School He also spent six months at the Air Base in San Bernardino California and taught eight years at Richfield High School The balance of his teaching career was at North Sevier High School, where he retired in 1972 On May 21, 1934, he married Vera Jorgensen, and when the couple returned to Redmond, they founded and operated the Redmond Merc for eight years before selling their interests An ardent member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Mr Latter day Saints Sorensen was a High Priest in the Bountiful 20th Ward at the time of his death He had also served on the Redmond Town Board, and had served as North Sevier Stake Sunday School Superintendent as well as a High Councilman Recently he served as an Ordinance Worker in the Salt Lake L D S Temple Mr Sorensen won high respect as a teacher and alway s made himself available to his students, whether in the classroom or after school hours He devoted his life in helping those with a desire for education in obtaining that goal Survivors include his widow of Bountiful two sons and
