Creg Burns of Buena Park, California, had motored to Salina to hunt with his brother, Dan Burns and his father, Vem Burns, Creg and Dan were hunting in Coal Hollow, Sunday, when they ran onto the animals tracks. Dan continued to chase, and Creg was stationed on a point overlooking the scene. The bear headed into the spot where Creg was stationed, and was killed with the one shot. The brothers skinned the animal out, and brought the head and hide into town. It was esti- mated it weighed between 400 and 500 pounds. November 1st, a Guide Patrol Edwin Watts, 60, a native of Axtell, died at 3 pm. October 23rd while enroute to the hospital in Richfield. Mr. and Mrs. Watts were on their way home from a visit in California, when Mr. Watts was stricken, and he died before medical help could be reached. He was .born November 25, 1901 in Axtell, the son of Edwin Thomas and Laura Hannah Crowther Watts. He grew to manhood, and lived in Axtell his entire life, and was employed by the Gunnison Sugar, Inc. until ill health forced his retirement a- bout a year ago. November 26, 1922, he married Thelma V. Wheeler. Survivors include his widow, Axtell; three children, Mrs. Keith (Betty) Hill, Sandy, Jerry A. Watts, Richfield; Mrs. Paul (Louise) Moyeda, California; ten grandchildren; one peat-granchild, and the following ibrot ers s, and sisters.
