The slogan for the 1923 observance Is, Visit the Schools Today," and Is aimed to enlist mors Interest In the Institutions of learning on the part of the parents. Garland W. Powell, director of the National Americanism commission of the American Legion, has outlined a definite program for the movement, which la receiving Indorsement of school authorities la every section of the country. Each day of the week has been set aside for some particular consideration, according to the program offered by Mr. Powell. Beginning with Sunday, when pastors of all denominations will deliver sermons on the relationship of the church and the school, all phases and Influences of school life will be touched. Monday, according to the program, la to be known as American Constitution day, when it Is hoped that a concise idea of citizenship may be obtained by consideration of the instrument which made it possible. The observance ot d WORK OF VETERANS BUREAU Improvements for Relief of Soldier In Accord With Legion Policies, Director Says. Practically all accomplishments of the United States veterans bureau, regarded by Director Frank T. Illnes as noteworthy Improvements for the relief of the soldier, have been advocated, and are In accord with the policies of the American Legion, according to Joseph Sparks, chairman of the national rehabilitation committee of the American Legion. Among the recent actions of the bureau for the relief of the disabled man have been provisions for a permanent partial status to disabled beneficiaries now receiving compensation on a temporary partial rating, thereby reducing medical examinations, eliminating inconvenience to employed beneficiaries and reducing travel and personnel. Another forward step of the bureau, strongly advocated by the Legion, was the employment of effective methods of trainees, placement of vocational which has been successful In securing positions for 97 per cent of the trainees. Internal changes in the operation of the bureau are the elimination of administration overhead expense, by closing 35 subdlstrlct offices; concentration of bureau supplies in three large central depots and inventory of all these supplies to eliminate further purchases; establishing of a record section In the supply division; consolidation of similar duties In central offices under one bead; establishment of an Inspection division, contemplated by the law, but never before established; the closing of contracts for Institutions where settlements had not been effected and where the Institutions were not being used. One of the principal achievements, declares Director Illnes, Is the placing of the bureau on a strict budget system. The hand of men of the American Legion la alwaya outstretched to help a former comrade In necessity, according to the many reporta reaching national headquarter! of the organization. How a disabled man obtained money due him through of hla Legion buddies," was recently disclosed In a letter from Clearwater, Kansas. Clarence English, and gassed wounded, was forced to go West to recuperate. A Wichita man owed English $100 and the boy cashed a check he gave him, In payment of hospital expenses. But the check was returned and went to protest a second time. The debt was then called to the attention of a Legion post commander, who saw to It that a delegation of Legionnaires called on the creditor and paid English in full. The former soldier, through his grateful mother, expressed appreciation of the Legions effort In settling the matter. Remarkable la Right. Huff was In overseas service for 18 months and returned broken In health. Continual brooding over the condition of a brother who had contracted tuberculosis In service, caused the man to become morbid and extremely nervous. He was taken to Chickasha before a sanity commission, adjudged Insane and ordered to the state asylum at Norman, to be accompanied by a deputy sheriff. When news reached the office of Mrs. Blanche Freeman, national executive committee member of the American Legion auxiliary, Mrs. Freeman, through the aid of county officials, was authorized to overtake the party and direct the officer and his chajge to a hospital for observation and treatment. American Legion Weekly. Dear Vlas Brooks: This is the first I have written to you. (1) What should you aay to a boy when he asked you if you would go with him and he said he loved you? When a boy asked you to go with him, what should you say to him? I have been out with every boy In this town also In other towns. When I started going out with boys I was ten years old. Was I too young? I have been going with them for five years. (3) If a girl goes with one boy for quite a while and then goes with another boy, how can she keep this boy from getting mad at her? (4) Does outting the hair make it thick, and if one has thick hair how can you make it thin? Hope you will answer these questions for me. From BERT, Utah. Let us hope It will not be the last time, my dear. (1) Am I to understand that he asked you to go with him and said he loved you at one and the game time? I never had just such an experience, and I can understand how tt would be rather disconcerting. I rather think Id tell him in as indifferent a manner as possible that I'd accept the front part of his proposal and go with him once anyway, but gracefully Ignore the rest of his rather hurried declaration, secretly assuring myself I would hear more of it later. (2) I could not hope to improve on your style of accepting invitations, since you have been invited, and accepted invitations from all the boys in your town and started in on the surrounding towns. My dear, I did not start accepting invitations to go out with boys at ten years of age, and I woulgl not have been allowed to do so even had I wished, nor have I known manv who have, so I am going to revert this question back to you by asking you the same thing. Were you too young? Would you advise others to do the same, and would you do it over again if you could turn back the years and be a child of ten again? (3) You have asked more than the limit of questions, dear, hut I would truly like to help you If I could. A girl has every right to go with as many boys as she wishes to, so long as she holds her heart intact and is unpromised to any one boy. The boy has no right to be offended, and he should forfeit your friendship by doing so. (4) Cutting the hair is thought to make it thicker and cause it to grow more evenly. You can not well make' your hair thinner, dear child, without treating It so poorly that it thins. Itself' by coming out. Dear Miss Brooks: May I ask for a poem? I believe It is called If We Knew. I know only--a few lines, as follows: "If we knew the cares and trials that: surround each ethers life Could see the naked heart and spirit Knew what spur the action give. Would the grim exterior roughness seem. I wonder. Just the same? Would we help where now we hinder? Would we pity where we blame?
