Both rate reductions came about through discussions with the states Division of Public Utilities and Committee of Consumer Services. Technically, the reductions were made through the companys Energy Balancing Account - a ratesetting tool that allows the company and regulators to monitor constantly changing prices of fuel and purchased power. This Account may be adjusted again in the future when the State Public Service Commission holds hearings. The rate decreases are also in addition to the 5 percent to 10 percent rate decreases that will occur following UP&Ls merger with PacifiCorp. Ferron Reservoir to be studied; drained Walt Donaldson Fisheries Manager, DWR The Division of Wildlife Resources will begin engineering studies on the dam at Ferron Reservoir during the summer of 1988. Recent inspections by the state engineers office indicate that old age and wear are taking their toll on the dam and its outlet structures. The project will be conducted by the Division of Water Resources. Ferron Reservoir is located on Manti Mountain about 25 miles west of Ferron. It was constructed near the turn of the century to irrigate farms in the emery County area. The reservoir was used to meet downstream irrigation needs until the 1970s when the division obtained total water rights. Since that time it has been stabilized by DWR and operated solely to increase fish production and provide public fishing. It has been maintained through a special use permit with the U.S. Forest Service, as it National is located in the Manti-LaSForest. Cattle, Hay, prices are up During summer and early Fall, Ferron Reservoir is one of the most popular recreation sites on the southern Manti Mountains - particularly for family outings. This water has developed a good reputation for ate summer fly fishing during the evening hours. The Division stocks 20,000 cutthroat and rainbow trout into the reservoir each year. The Forest Service has provided campground facilities near the shoreline, and a concessionaire handles cabin rentals, boat rentals and groceries. Engineering work this summer may inhibit some aspects of recreation. Backhoe work and core drilling on the dam will restrict shore fishing. In addition, the reservoir will likely be drained later in the summer to aid the o erall examination. If the dam outlet shows a need for major repair, the reservoir will remain drained, - possibly more than one year until wildlife officials make a decision on a course of action for future repair.
