Mindy placed 1st in Advanced Tumbling, which entitled her to compete in the World Games to be held in Lubbock, Texas, in May. This is the first time the World Games have been held in the United States. The Games are usually held in Europe, and attract competitors from all over the world. At the same Meet, the Junior Olympic Trials were held, and Mindy took 1st place in the Open - where all ages compete against each other. Her win enables her to compete in the Junior Olympics Nationals, which will be held in August. The week is a combined effort of archeology groups from throughout the state, meant to educate people about the importance of archaeology and preserving archaeological sites. Many local events are planned for the week, including a series of lectures at the Sevier County Courthouse and Fremont Indian State Park. April 11, Ken Kohler, curator of the Park, will speak on The Fremont of Clear Creek Canyon, at the Park. Apnl 12, Asa Nielson, professor of archaeology atBYU will speak at the courthouse on The Archaic. April 13, Marian Jacquelin will speak on the Recapture Wash Project in San Juan County, at the Courthouse. April 15, Bob Leonard, archaeologist for Fishlake National Forest will speak at the museum on Jim Moores historic ranch. All lectures will begin at 7 p.m. Harmon is now teaching tire first class of the new certificauon program. The local group is no w at level two of the three level course, having already completed level one. The effort of the certification is to bring people together with similar interests and channel archaeolocial activities in the state. Once certified, the amateur archeologist will be able to help professional in the field and lab, Harmon noted. Other classes will begin if interest warrants. On April 16 day long activities will be held at the Fremont Museum. Beginning at 10 a.m. there will be a demonstration of Native American crafts by Native Americans from the Richfield School; concessions across from the museum will be open, with trail rides, tour of village, and Indian tacos will be available.
