Jeffs Carpet Mosaic As part of his Sterling Scholars project, NSHS Senior Jeff Rodeman designed this carpet mosaic which now graces the lobby of the new North Sevier High School. Helping him to put the mosaic were Bryan Beach and J.R. Carter. together The landslide in Spanish Fork Canyon and the subsequent flooding of histle have forced traffic between the Wasatch Front and east central Utah to use different routes. Following are recommended routes with conditions for each: Interstate 15 south to Levan, then State Road 28 south to Gunnison, then U.S. 89 south to Salina, the Interstate 70 east to State Road 10 which is just east of Fremont Junction. From there head north on State Road 10. It is 243 miles from Salt Lake to Price by this route. . Interstate 80 east to Silver Creek Junction, then southeast on U.S. 40 to Duchesne, then southwest on U.S. 191 (former State Road 330) through Indian Canyon to U.S. 6 just north of Helper. It is 172 miles from Salt Lake to Price this way. However, the road through Indian Canyon is narrow and steep with an 8 percent grade. interstate 15 south to Nephi, then southeast on State Road 132 to Moroni, then east on State Road 116 to Mt. Pleasant, then north on U.S. 89 to Fairview, then east on State Three are National Home Ec Winners Three North Sevier area students have been named 1983 United States Award Winners in Home Economics. Danette Beach and Trade Ben-ne- t, both of North Sevier Middle School and Irene Chivers, North Sevier High School, have won the awards. 'All three were nominated by their home economics instructor, Miss Margene W ebster. The girls biographies will appear , in the United Stated Achievement , Academy Yearbook, published nat- ionally. This award is a prestigious honor very few students can ever hope to attain. In fact, the Academy recognizes less than to percent of all American high school students. The Academy selects USAA winners upon the exdusive recommendation of teachers, coaches, counselors, or other school sponsors and upon the Standards of Selection set forth by the Academy. The criteria for selection are a students academic performance, interest and aptitude, leadership qualities, responsibility, enthusiasm, motivation to learn and improve, citizenship, attitude and cooperative spirit, dependability and recom mendatiori from a teacher or director Danette is the daughter of Mr. Grandand Mrs. Chad Beach. parents are Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Beach of Salina, and Mr. and Mrs; n Milton Peterson, of Salina. Trade is the daughter of Mr. and GrandMrs. Wayne Bennett. parents are Mr. and Mrs. Guy Huntsman, of Aurora, Utah and Mrs. Voris Bennion,. of Bunkervile, Nevada. However, landslides and 10 to 20 foot snowdrifts along State Road 31 between Fairview and Huntington are obstacles. No vehicle heavier than 10 tons is allowed on State Road The grade un Fairview Canvon is between 6 percent and nine percent. There are two places in Fairview Canyon where moisture has caused the road to fall away so travel is restricted to one lane at both locations. 31. Road State open keep Palmer Son Called As Provo Principal At the recent board meeting of the Provo School District Board of Education, Marlin T. Palmer son of Mr. and Mrs. James William Palmer, Aurora, was appointed principal of Joaquin Elementary School in Provo. Mr. Palmer graduated from North Sevier High School in 1966. He has been teaching in Provo the past eight years and is currently serving as assistant principal and intern coordinator at Edgemont School in Provo. Marlin graduated from Brigham Young University and received his Masters Degree there in Educational Administration. He is also Director of the Provo School District Outdoor Education program, which allows elementary children to participate in a week long summer camp experience.
