Through the Eyes of Love is the theme for this years prom, put on by the Class of 1981. Jeff Lund is class president and Belinda Noyes is prom chairman. Ocean Breeze will provide music, and a floor show will begin at 10 p.m. Prices are $3.50 for singles and $6 for couples. Lions Club Sets Paper Drive Salina Lions will have their monthly drive to collect newspapers beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday, March 29. Residents are encouraged to have their newspapers tied and bundled and placed on the curb in front of their home early so they will be included. Lisa Huntsman Wins -- Bflnss McDirttBa District Spelling Bee Loncdky Two super spellers from Salina schools won first and fourth place in the Sevier School District Spelling Bee conducted last Friday in Richfield. Lisa Beth Huntsman, an eighth grader at North Sevier Junior High, won the district championship by correctly spelling questionnaire, which runner-u- p Melanie Ware, South Sevier, misseflLisa Beth, the daughter of Mrs. Leona Huntsman of Aurora, clinched the title by spelling the state spelling bee, sponsored by the Deseret News. State winners earn a trip to Washington, D.C. to compete in the national spelling bee. The Sevier district contest, held at Richfield High School, was a marathon. Delbert Higgins, retired district teacher who pronounced the words, said he had never seen such excellent spellers. Lisa Beth won on the 400th word. The final four contestants remained after an hour of spelling words provided from a list of 550 from the Deseret News. Judges were Pat Gleave, Annabella; Karren Glover, Salina, and Lois Christensen, Richfield. Other finalists were Kim Magleby, Pahvant sixth grader; Elisa Peterson, Ashman fifth grader; Cyndi Peterson, Richfield Junior High eighth grader; and Brett Littke, fourth grader from Monroe Elementary, the youngest and the only boy. Lisa Beth won the interclass competition in the junior high to earn the chance to compete. Her instructor is Miss Teresa Robinson, who accompanied her to the contest. In the Salina Elementary competition, students from third through sixth grades participated. Cheryl Huntsman and Joyce Mason, members, were judges for the contest. In addition to Stacey, the first-plac- e winner from Kendyll Wilkins fifth grade, other finalists were Sandy Reynolds, second, Bradford Whittakers sixth grade; and Lisa Willden, third, Eugene Tidlunds sixth grade. Elwood Willis, Pahvant Elementary teacher, was in charge of the local district contest. Song, dance, and instrumental performances will entertain the audience Saturday, April 12, at the Miss North Sevier Scholarship scheduled for 7 p.m. Pageant, in the North Sevier High School auditorium. Thirteen talented young women from the area will participate in the contest. Six will sing, one will dance, four will play musical instruments, and two will give readings. Vocalists are Debbie Ervine, Neva Black, Stephanie Harward, Lauralea Collins, Jodi Marshall and Stacie Hansen. The dancer is Micki Roberts, and the instrumentalists are Christine Hales, Cynthia Hampton, Dalene Torgersen, and Brenda Larsen. Dramatic readers are Kelly Whitlock and Tamra Curtis. Five finalists will be chosen by the judges. The new Miss North Sevier will receive a $300 scholarship and a $10 gift certificate (courtesy of Paulettes Smart Shop). First and second runners-u- p ( Construction is underway on the footbridge across Salma Creek. Concrete piers to support the bridge structure were poured Monday, and fill dirt was hauled in and graded and sidewalk forms set in place Tuesday under the direction of George Rollins. Cox Construction provided the concrete at an $80 discount, and Rodney Rasmussen hauled in the fill dirt at his cost, according to Redge Hansen, who is heading the project financed by donations and efforts of private citizens. The sidewalk on the south side of the bridge, located across Salina Creek at about 200 East and 100 South, behind the Texaco station, will slope from the bridge to the existing sidewalk in Sunnybrook Estates. The bridge structure itself has been by Salina City crews using part of the roof structure from the old Phillips 66 station, recently demolished. About four feet of the grating on each end of the bridge was left out, and will be spot welded into place when the structure is set on its concrete pads The piers poured earlier this week will be backfilled, then the concrete pads poured, Hansen explained. Special equipment, including a flat each will receive bed truck or trailer to haul the bridge structure, will be needed. Weve saved some money on the project by obtaining all the steel, pipe and fencing at cost through Bry Hansen said, adding Rasmussen, that more funds still were needed to complete the project. As of Tuesday, a total of slightly over $4,700 had been collected. Lisa Beth will go on to compete in Households To Receive Census Questionnaire Utah households, along with all others in the nation, will receive a questionnaire from the U.S. Bureau of the Census in Fridays mail. The package, white with blue lettering, contains an instruction guide to use in filling out the questionnaire.' In Sevier, Sanpete, and other southern Utah counties, the questionnaires are to he filled out and held for census takers who will begin picking them up March 31. Marion Peterson, Salina; Sharon Syddall and Kaye Weimer are the crew leaders for the 1960 Census in Sevier County. Diane Olsen and Lavon Stewart are the crew leaders in Sanpete County. Each will supervise from 6 to 13 enumerators or census takers. Enumerators will personally pick up every census form that has been mailed out. No one should try to mail their census form back to the census office. The enumerators will collect them all in person. The 1980 census qualified as one of the largest peacetime efforts ever mounted in this country. By the time the last American is counted, sometime during the summer, the Bureau of the Census will have reached an estimated 222 million U.S. residents and 86 million housing units, and gathered more than three billion answers.
