Rodeo, which promises to be one of the best brought to the area. The three-da- y event will draw top cowboys from across the nation, as well as local talent. Professional rodeo sponsors seven events, including the rough stock events of bareback riding, saddle bronc riding, and bull riding. The roping events are calf roping and team roping. Ladies barrel racing and steer Salina Riding Club members are busy preparing for the annual Salina I.R.A. Rodeo. They have been construc ting new holding pens made of steel pipes with wire netting in between. considerable amount of man hours of labor has been donated to the project. A Summer Theatre Workshop Plans For Pegora The Witch students parThe twenty-on- e ticipating in the Summer Theatre Workshop are going into the final week of preparation for their production, Pegora, the Witch. Performances will begin at 7:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday, June 28 - 29, at the Richfield -- Junior High Arena Theatre. In an effort to expose the students to as many aspects of theatre as possible, workshop director Pam Williams has invited various guest lecturers from among Community Theatre membership to give talks and demonstrations. lions Paper Drive The Salina Lions Club will conduct their paper drive Saturday, June 30. Bishop Nathan Anderson stated that the plans call for the tearing down of the old chapel on the north side of the present cultural hall with a new chapel being constructed on the south side of the hall to replace it. The area left vacant by the removal of the old chapel will be converted into a capacity. parking lot with a 60-c- wrestling complete the roster. There is an added purse of $1,500 for the July rodeo, which means in addition to the entry fees that make up the winners pot, $1,500 will be added to the prize money. Finals in Tulsa, top-notc- one-nig- Worlcshop On Alcohol And Drugs munities, according to Leland The Division of Alcohol & Drugs of the Six County Commissioners Organization is holding a workshop this Friday, June 29, at the Rodeway Inn in Richfield. The subject of the workshop will be House Bill 222, people driving under the influence of intoxicating liquor. There is a great deal of misunderstanding and lack of knowledge of this bill and its benefits to the com C. Robinson, director of Alcohol & Drugs. A workshop is necessary to give those directly involved with individuals convicted of driving under the influence and how it can help their communities as a whole. P.O.S.T. Credit will be given to law enforcement personnel who attends, according to Joe M. Bonch, director of Department of Public Safety, Utah eace Officers Standards and Training. Letters were sent to all law enforcement divisions, judges and alcohol counselors in the Six County area. We were expecting 25 people to respond, but we now have 30 signed up, said Robinson. The rodeo is also the d bucking broncos and the whistle which signals that the nder didnt quite make it or that he managed to outlast the twisting, jumping, bucking animals for that short eight seconds - which seems like an etermty for the rider trying to stay aboard. What would a rodeo be if it didnt have clowns, with their special talent to make the audience laugh at a joke the have heard a dozen times before? Its the clowns who help pick up the action when the bull attempts to charge a fallen rider. What would a rodeo be if What would a rodeo be if we didnt have the Salina Rodeo Queen and her attendants to add colorful western outfits, as well as beauty, to the rodeo, and who also take turns chasing the calves following the calf roping? The Salina I.R.A. Rodeo is the climax of many hours and many years of effort and meetings and planning and contracts and worries. N eight-secon- Sevier Democratic Convention Planned The Sevier County democratic Convention will be held Saturday, June 30, at 8 p.m. at the Sevier County Courthouse in Richfield. There are only seven classrooms in the present facility, and Bishop Anderson commented that with the tremendous growth Redmond has experienced over the past four years, (from 398 to 528 members or a 32 growth), they are now overcrowded and classes are presently being held in the shower room, lounge portions of the ladies rest room, m the foyers, kitchen, cultural hall, and stage. As an indication of future growth still to come, it was noted that there will be 32 children registered for the class, a figure which up to now has been unheard of in Redmond. Statistics further show that there are more children under the age of three in the ward than the total number presently in the entire Primary program. three-year-o- ld In addition to the new chapel and classrooms, there will be provisions made to allow two wards to use the building, with bishops offices being constructed on the east and west side of the new chapel. The cultural hall also will be renovated. A building fund banquet held recently netted $18,100 to go towards the project, bringing the total amount already collected to over $78,000. The ward also anticipates receiving much donated labor, which will help the cost of the buildine The architects for the new project to be approximately $1,410,000, of which 30 or $312,000 is the wards share of the funds. A pre-bi- d conference is being scheduled for the middle of July with the bidding to be done two weeks later. estimate the total cost CHARLES WOODSIDE New Salina Police Officer Salina Police chief Gordon Kiesel has announced the hiring of a new police officer for Salina City. Charles R. Woodside, 23, started working for Salina City June 22, 1979. He is a lifelong resident of Salina. He graduated from North Sevier High School, and is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles L. Wilson, Salina. Officer Woodside was employed by o Electric for the past two years.
