The Aurora City Council held an extra city council meeting last week to discuss some issues that were timely in nature and could not wait until the usual meeting held on November 15th. The first item on the agenda was a proposal for the city to allow a mineral lease on city owned property. Also a seismic permit was presented by Ralph Squires representing the oil company interested in securing such a lease. After some discussion. Councilman Tim Bastain stated he was concerned about the seismic crew disturbing underground drains and water lines. Mr. Squires mentioned that the company would be responsible for any damage done. Seismic activity near the city owned springs was also mentioned as a concern. Mr. Squires stated that the company in regulated under state rules that1 require certain conditions near springs and wells. A motion to allow a seismic study was made by Councilman Brett Blackburn. Mr. Sorensen currently owns and operates a business that is zoned in a residential area. Because of changes made requiring burial vaults to be lined with plastic, Mr. Sorensen needs to expand his business to accommodate such changes. The Sorensens were hoping to expedite a zoning change in order to begin construction before bad weather arrives. The council informed Mr. and Mrs. Sorensen that they were willing to make the necessary changes but that a legal time period of two weeks was needed for advertising and that a public hearing was also needed when making a zoning change. The city recorder was directed to place the advertisement in the newspaper and a public hearing was set for November 29th. Bids for new sidewalk construction were then opened by the council. The first bid came from Construction in Mid-Sta- Richfield. te The bid amount was $6740.00. The second bid motion passed with Tim Bastain abstaining. The council then decided that they would need more time to consider the mineral lease and would rule on that proposal at a later date.
