Gunnison Seniors February 9 a.m. 8-- Trip to St George at Pioneer Day Celebrations featured in new display at Church museum celebration in 1931, together with a photograph of Young taken by Bill Shipler. Three dolls dressed like Pioneer Centennial Queen Caileen Robinson and her attendants, Marie Barnett and Maty Louise Gardner, in 1 947, are shown together with a photograph of the Pioneer parade royalty in their colorful dresses. The centerpiece to the display is an inscribed buffalo skull displayed in a box labeled Bulletin of the Plains. Davis said that the skull, which carries a message dated June 3, 1847, may actually have been created for the Pioneer Jubilee of 1897. The information on the skull docs not match the record of miles traveled that day kept by diarists in the pioneer company, he said. Hanging over the exhibit is a large Pioneer Centennial Banner used in the Days of 47 parade fifty years ago. Ribbons given to surviving pioneers in 1897 and commemorative cup and plate are among the other memorabilia assembled for the display. Photographs in the exhibit include various scenes around Utah showing gatherings and parades between 1 885 and 1 952. A view inside the Salt Lake Tabernacle shows it decorated for a pioneer program in the 1890s. A news photo shows Church President George Albert Smith, who chaired the Days of 47 Centennial Committee, with the last surviving Mormon pioneer to come to Utah before the completion of the transcontinental railroad in 1869. The Pioneer Day exhibit will remain on display until November 17, 1 997. Admission is free. Recorded information is available at Rylee Lyn Blackburn turned one year old on February 2, 1 997.
