Smith feels that we now have the money and the potential to proceed with the planning and construction of the project, and his enthusiasm is rubbing off on all around. He is in the process of calling together a group of specialists from the area so that the project will not only be completed right the first time, but it will be a first class job done under bid. On the list of possible project planners will be those involved with irrigation, pipes, and trenching. The Letters to the Editor are encouraged and welcome. All letters need We Lmust be signed. Tuft. Tuft noted that it is becoming more difficult to find businesses that are willing to donate toward the District participation in the share is program. This District $1,500 per year. Only two of IS local businesses have agreed to partiriapte this year, and there is a $700 shortfall. One suggestion was that nominees pay a participation fee in the program, but Board members were not certain that this is a good option. Supt Tuft said next year's budget is now being planned. He said the District Is looking at different ways to stretch operating dollars as far as they will go. Tuft said he receives an update on the Legislature's actions daily and will keep the board informed. The Board went on record to support Governor Bangerter's pr- ogram which calls for a tax reduction and proposes a 2 mill tax adjustment by local boards. Tuft reviewed an activity and cost study compiled by the Utah High Schools Activities Association. He said the average cost per student participant in the state of Utah is $69.64 per student per year. A national survey shows that Utahs productivity rate is very cost effective in regards to each dollar spent on activities. Ruth Jackson voiced support and praise for the musical activities that are being held throughout the District, and she encouraged expansion of musical opportunities for students. Someone will need to analyze the angle of the dirt berm surrounding the football field and track, and determine what kind of bleachers will fit, or whether it will be better to remove the berm and fit the bleachers to save money. As you can see, the whole project will consist of several smaller projects, and input is needed so that it will be done right the first time, Since it has taken this long to be funded, I can almost guarantee the funds will be available only once, so we had better do the best job we can the first time. If anyone has any ideas, suggestions, or time available to help with this project, a simple phone call to the high school will suffice, We have waited long enough for the completion of this dream that has been with us since the high school was built, and now is the time to pool our resources together and make it go. Congratulations to Ross Marshall, Tim Smith, and Glen Partridge for their untiring efforts to get this project off the ground. Congratulations also to the school board for deciding not lo piecemeal this dream together over the next few years, but to fund it as best they can to get it completed. We have waited, sometimes not as patiently as they would have liked, but patiently still the same, while money was promised anj then taken away. We feel that the rest of the county will appreciate what we are trying to do and wait another year for their projects to be funded, and hopefully not just in part, but in full, as you have seen the wisdom in doing with this project. mUSt f 1 coal used on a (ml basis will be a blend of Sk)lme and SLFCo coal.
