They cant understand why Rishel plays up the Wendover and Snowville routes to ...the extent he does, to the distinct 'disadvantage of the best interests of the state. Why he should send tourists through these meagerly populatn ed and district's, when there is a spendlid highway extending north and south through the state touching all the important itowns and cities and making direct contact with the states scenic centers Some of the Salt Lake business men, who seem to think that Bill is the cats whiskers when it comes to road matters, have business interests in Southern Utah that they can ill afford to antagonize. , They had better remind their friend Bill of this fact and tell him to forget it to the fact that some of the towns and cities of the south have been paved and that the state road commission has assisted them whenever consistent with proper procedure. In retaliation for this, it is now reported that Bill is. fixing to elimi-nht- e the commission and take chargd of the road department himself. That is, if he can get the incoming legislature to see it that way. Of course no one takes this seriously and it only goes to show how completely he is captivated with a sense of his own importance. Bill has the nerve and gall of a burglar, however, and can be expected to try some of his methods with the legisd we of Southern Wouldnt lature. Utah hawe a fine time of it with Bill at the helm of the road department? We are not dead down this way, neither are we sleeping, and if he tries anything of that sort his roseate expectations will have a most serious setback. We are watching you, Bill. semi-barre- James A. Christensen, tended. president of the North Sevier stake, was in charge of the convention. Departmental meetings were held all day Saturday and Sunday forenoon at which. the following themes weie emphasized: How to make gospel teaching more effective; the religious education of the youth; and the inculcation of faith and reverence in youth. Ephraim Magleby of Sevier Monroe, president of South stake, and Robert D. Young, president of Sevier stake, spoke Sunday morning in the Sunday school section . Sunday afternoon a general assembly wa3 held at which the following visitois from Northern Utah spoke: Apostle Richard R. Lyman, Congressman Don B. Colton, Mathre Cowley, private secretary of Senator Smoot; George M. Cannon of the general board of the Sunday school; Mrs. Sarah Anne McClellan of the Relief society board, Mrs. Edna Har-kThomas of the Primary, and Mrs. Lucy Grant Cannon of the Y. L. M. I. A. Miss Lillie Nielson and Dan Baker of the Salina high school each sang a solo, and the Redmond choir, directed by A. C. of Salina, sang three anthems. G. M. Beck, state road Not only foreman for the district. will the highway be improved and put in conditon for winter travel, but the dangerous curve and bridge at Flat canyon wash is to be corrected. The road at this point is to be straightened and will cross the wash some 200 yards below the present The new bridge will be crossing. fifteen feet wide, twenty feet long and fifteen feet high, thus giving assurances of safety from floods. This improvement will prove one of the most important along the route, as this point has been considered extremely dangerous. When work starts next Monday morning sixteen teams will be in the line-u- p and some twenty men will be employed at the beginning. For the present Foreman Beck stated that the improvement would be devoted to the points and places most needed and if the fund will hold out then repairs and fills and graveling will be carried out along the entire route.
