The seminary as an institution an outgrowth of at least the three following conditions which existed the movement bewhich and still exist in such gan relief as to foster the growth of this work. The need for giving of a . I . complete and scholarly treatment of religious education to students- of high school age. 2. The ability of the church, because of the expense involved, to give this instruction to all ol its young people through the medium of schools in which secular es well as religious training may be given, and the inadvisabiiity of being responsibe for unnecessary duplication of the very effective work noW put over Ty the state high school system, f 3. 1 he manifestly just and proper platform of the Constitution of thte' United States, which provides that religion shall not be taught in the public schools. With these three conditions existing it is evident that whatever method of giving the needed religious training should be adopted it must be carried forward by an institution of recognized scholastic standing of a private nature closely associated with the school but wholly separate institutionally, entirely free from any infringement of the Constitution. The seminary, as it is now being operated, seems fully to meet these conditions. It is purely an institution of the L. D. S. church, having no connection with the state school system. The expense of maintenance andopera-tio- n is entirely borne by the church. The housing and class-.roofacililis are provided by the church, as is the teacher. They are in no way connected with public school ownership or supervision. w-he- . m Entry No. 042113 The main objective of the seminary work is to establish attitudes that will lead to ( ) reverence for God; (2) respect for authority; (3) honor and devo-io- n to the rurch and its ideals; (4) respect for home and fam-ly- ; (5) respect, love and char-tfor fellow-me(6) civic and religious responsibility; ( 7) the development of self and the of society. Even though seminary is maintained by the L. D. S. church it s open to all high school students and an invitation is extended to all to enroll in the classes. At present there are 73 students enrolled in the various classes and Tiore are being added as the increases in the high school. We are proud of the boys and girls who are registered vith u and hope to make the work of sttch a nature and of such value that they in turn will be better qualified and trained to render more efficient service to church and state. The courses given are Old Testament History, New Testament History, and- - Church History and Doctrine. In harmony y with the practice of the great of the states of the Union, unit credit is allowed by he state institutions involved for rach of the first two courses given. No credit is requested, nor vould it be right to accept it for .he third course because of its specific reference to the church ind its doctrine.
