Pinkhams Vegetable Compound I was so weak and Covington, Kv. nervous I could hardly do mv housework as I could not stand because of the bear-ing-dow- m pains in my back and abdomen. I sat down most of the time and did what I could do in that way as washing dishes, etc. One day a book describing Lydia E. Pinkhams medicines was put in mv inafl-boI saw now the Vegetable Compound had helped others so I gave it a trial. I had to take about a dozen bottles before I gainedmy strength but I certainly praise this ''medicine. Then I took Lydia E. Pinkhams Blood medicine for poor blood. 1 was cold all the time. I would be so cold I could hardly sit still and in the palms of my hands there would be drops of sweat I also used the Sanative Wash and I recommend it also. You may publish this letter and I will gladly answer letters from women ana advise my neighbors about these medicines. Mrs. Harry Ashcroft, 632 Beech Avenue, Covington, Kentucky. x. Shoving Wiring Diagram of Receiver Known as the Heteroflex. Except Tuning Transformer Are Standard Make. Througn a drive which has recently been launched In Chicago to furnish radio sets for disabled war veterans, many of the hospitals caring for these men have been supplied with sets, which have proved to be a great source of entertainment to the patients and help pass the time away as they lie in their cots day after day. Whale Goes Astray in Gulf of Mexico By HENRY F. WORNER Simplicity of tuning, elimination of extraneous noises and a minimum number of tuning controls are what the radio fan of today Is looking for In the line of receiving sets. The set about to be described was designed and built by the writer, and if properly constructed will do all these things. The hookup consists essentially of an untuned primary circuit, a secondary circuit shunted by a (.0005 mfd.) variable condenser and a third circuit is made up of a .0005 mfd. condenser connected In series with a coil. The wiring diagram of this receiver, which Is known as the heteroflex, will be found accompanying this article. All parts except the tuning transformer are of standard make and may be purchased at any radio store. For the details of construction of this transformer, known as the heteroformer, Figs. 1 and 2 will he The tubing may be of some Standard material, such as radlon, or inis female whale, 58 feet long, was caught recently near Sabine Pass, Texas, and an enterprising young showman fenced her in and for a fee permitted visitors to walk right Into her mouth. After passing all terminal wires to their respective positions fasten them permanently. Use Low-Los- s Condensers. Condensers of the low loss variety should be used, as their efficiency will more than compensate their higher cost. Ity connecting the rotary plutes to the terminals, labeled 2 and 5, the body capacity effects will he materially reduced and this will greatly facilitate the task of tuning in distant stations, The amplifying transformers for tills set should not have a higher ratio than 5:1, and better quality will he had if a 3 :1 Is used In the second step. In laying out the apparatus on a panel.it will be found best to have the two variable condensers mounted at the extreme left, followed in logical order by the detector, first and second A suggested stage tube equipment size for the panel is 18 by 7 Inches. This ought to be ample for all the apparatus used In this set. The tuning of this receiver Is reasonably simple. It Is first necessary to bring the detector rheostat up to the point where begins, then set the third coil circuit somewhere between 0 and 50 degrees on the dial scule. Next turn the secondary condenser slowly till a "swish" Is heard, which Indicates a station. By carefully tuning the detector rheostat the speech will be heard. The dial settings will read approximately the same 0 WIR.E. 'W2.Y jtl for best reception. In conclusion the writer suggests that all leads lie run as short and ns direct as possible.
