The directors of the Salina Telephone Company held their regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, August 2G. Manager C. J. Olsen reported many improvements in the line and stated that many more are under way. The matter of rates on the U. S. line to Loa and intermediate points was one of the main issues and the directors decided to standardize the rates, making the rate for three minutes in most cases very much less than the present rate. This schedule will be thoroughly worked out and put into effect in the near future. The directors have very earnestly investi-- j gated the condition of the plant and the revenue of the company. It is said in report that the revenue is not commensurate to the expenditures when a small amount for depreciation is figured into the expenditures. Manager Olsen stated that he was anxious to give first class service equal to any in the state but that in order to do this it might be necessary to slightly increase some of the rates for local rentals. The books of the company are open for investigation by apy one. The usual cause of failure of small organizations, and especially telephone companies, and the cause of poor service is that these organizations are operating without any provisions for depreciation and the proper maintenance of the plant. Following are the guests: Mis. B. S. Bastian, Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Ivie, Mrs. Irie Ivie, Mrs. J. I. Rex, Mrs. Ralph McAllister, and tile Misses, Elna Ivie, Florence Barnard, Fay Burns, Zell Sorensen, Florence Farrill, Lois Brown, June Colby, Edna Domgaard, Helen Anderson, Zenna Bird, Mary Whiting, Laura Draper, Leora Dastrup, Vilate Johnson Lydia Larson, May Ewles.
