No. SI Governor Dern and Party To Visit Salina Saturday Adequate School Buildings More than one hundred of Sevier county, 'yepresenjtig' practically every district in the county, with a view of working out a problem for the betterment of the schools and school buildings, met at the county court house in Richfield Monday night. Elsinore and Annabelle had no representation whatever, and Richfield answered the call of two. Salina went thirty strong while Monroe, Redmond, Aurora and other districts had full delegations with one or two exceptions. The meeting was a decided success from a standpoint of attendance and it is to be hoped that the intent of the meeting will bring the needed results. L. W. Jones, president of the Sevier county board of education, pre-- . sided and outlined the purpose of the mass meeting, stating that appeals had been made for new buildings and other improvements in the district, and that the meeting was for the purpose of working out the best means for raising funds to carry out the building program. With the subject open for discussion, Salinas needs were championed by Mayor Leo Merrill, P. C. Scorup, Dr. Don Merrill, 0. G. Nielsen and others. The dire needs of a new building for Salina was explained when Mayor Merrill told of the crowded condition of the high school through two of the grade schools being forced to occupy quarters in the high school building. The unsanitary condition, stamped by Mayor Merrill as being a disgrace, was vividly impressed upon the school board and the taxpayers attending the meeting. With the Sevier district ranking lower than any othej district in Utah, perhaps, in point of building accomodations, its high time citizens who favor higher education, get busy and work to the end of upbuilding our school system instead of tearing it down, Mayor Merrill concluded. Other speakers from Salina also deplored the conditions, not at Salina,. but throughout the other dis v, represen-taxpaye- tricts who are appealing for more room and adequate places for conducting schools. Monroe, Aurora and other districts rs Start at M-l- represented, repeated the deplorable conditions and asked that relief be given through some means. Issuing bonds in the sum of $200,000 seemed to be favored more "than a special tax levy, declaring' that conditions at this time would not justify it for the reason that it would work a hardship on some. Bonds in the sum of $200,000, it was Shown, would carry out a program that would suffice for the present. The matter was left to the school board for action, and it is hoped that the sentiment will be for calling an election and provide proper housing for the schools of the county and advance our educational institutions from the present low level to a place of higher standing. -- UiiilDC Activities ist For NAMED DIRECTOR. Will t , Recent developments in the properties being operated by the Salina c company in the vicinity of Salina, has caused considerable excitement in the territory adjacent to Mayfield and it is reported that many new locations have been made there within the pasWweek. E. F. B. Daude, the noted geologist and mining engineer, together with E. E. Brown, also widely known in mining engineering circles, visited the Mayfield section the first of the week. The engineers were highly impressed with the showing and assured the locators that with proper development pay values were sure to It will require sink be uncovered. ing to a depth of about 300 feet, Mr. Daude stated, to locate the bodies of ore. The formation is identical with that found in the Salina Lead-Zin- c property, which the engineer says, is no longer a prospect, but a mine that is capable of producing commercial ores. In addition to those from Salina locating property in the Mayfield district, several from Gunnison have located promising claims, and in all liklihood some real activities will be Lead-Zin- started soon.
