Show AS OTHERS SEE IT editor roosevelt standard dear sir GOLLY HOW SHYLOCK DOES BELLOW in your latest issue are two articles complaining about the proposed HOMESTEAD EXEMPTION law one wonders who will pay the bonded indebtedness of the small towns the other is concerned wilo who will pay the school teachers there seems to be little cause for cor concern about either it is a well established fact that our little two percent sales tax brings more revenue to the state of utah than the entire property fax the beauty of the sales tax is that it collects the tax from sources where money is while a property tax collects money from holders of property whether they receive a revenue from that property or not indeed in this country a farm is a rare one that produces running expenses AND ALL FARM TAX MUST COME FROM THE WAGES OF THE MAN THAT OPERATES THE FARM in fact there is no need thel for legislation at this session of tho legislature to raise funds to supplant the present homestead tax because the people will have to vote on this law a at the general election in 1936 and until that time the present law will lie be in effect the only trouble with the proposed HOMESTEAD EXEMPTION LAW IS THE EXEMPTION IS NOT HALF HIGH ENOUGH it is not only to penalize a man mail for building a good home for his family but it la is mighty poor politics every man mail should be able to own a good home and business to a limited valuation with no lie tax ax except a sales tax and an income tax which properly adjusted will be light on the man of small income but anyone is badly mistaken who expects to see the rich pay their share of government expense without a whole lot of bellowing ROBERT H C |
