Show to voters of duchesne county As you know a petition for the annexation of a narrow strip oj of uintah county and east of roose velt has been favorably acted upon so that the same will be on the tha official ballot for the annexation of said strip to duchesne county the petition being supposedly correct on 11 its face the county commissioners held that it was their duty under the law to submit it to the voters and we have no desire to criticise criticism critic ise them th em for that action and neither are we disposed to tc criticise criticism critic ise the person and we do not know who aho it was that wrote the description of the land or strip to be annexed but what we do know is that the description of the strip to be annexed is exceedingly faulty that the descriptive 4 line lina begins in an impossible r township and ranga and that the start is where the line between lwe n sections two and three y the north boundary of the ilia uintah indian reservation and that there are no sections two and three in the township which was probably meant but not properly described and that the same difficulty is met on the southern line of the reservation er where the descriptive line runs west to the line between sections two and three in another impossible or improperly described township and that is only a piece township town thip again and has no sections two and three but if it be attempted to follow what was probably meant by the he description the line then in in going south to the county line will cut off a good slice of duchesne county and annex it to uintah county which was not the object of the petition and too there are other very serious objections to that petition from a legal standpoint stand pint and to vote the strip into duchesne county on that petition would be only to vote endless trouble and litigation on the people of this and uintah counties instead of settling the boundary question we would not settle anything but get ourselves into endless trouble we are not opposed to annexation but if we get annexation we want it to come so that it will stick and so that there will not be a lot of legal trouble over it to drag the people thru the courts on an improper annexation that will be an expensive and vexatious humiliation for our people for a dozen years after af ter the election is over and this petition voted down then the county line should be settled in the courts and settled right and then a proper and carefully prepared petition should be submitted from the people of the strip for annexation and it would undoubtedly be approved by the people of the whole county therefore to save the people from a bungling public document that should never be approved appi oved by them and filed in the public archives of the count county yand and state we most earnestly advise you to vote against t h eaid annexation petition yours very truly L A hollenbeck E H BURGESS |
