Show I 1 consolidation OF SCHOOLS OF COUNTY we have recently received from a large per cent of pi the voters of the county asking the board of commissioners to form the county of duchesne Du chesno into a county school district of theO the first class as provided for ml in chapter 16 of the school laws U of utah while these petitions ft are annece unnecessary sary it is very graty 4 to know now that the resist dents of the baby county are f ready to accept any system that t 4 offers a possibility to improve il 1 the present school conditions 14 1 the following is an extract 1 J I from house bill no as pass A ed by the legislature of the e j 3 state of utah on the day F of march alarca of this year no board how constituted the board of edus W cation of school district of the first class shall consist of five members one to be elected from and by each of the representative precincts within said county school district the board of county commissioners in which such county school district is located shall before june 1915 divide the same into five representative precincts for school purposes and at the election in december 1916 members of the board of education shall be elected in accordance with suf suc n ri the following is from a circular sent out by state superintendent perin E G gowans the plan to be followed by some counties is about as fol lovs lov s the county saper eid ent shall at a meeting of all trustees in the county immedi l abely after the county commis I 1 indicate who are to be the merr members bors of the new nev board of education the members of the nev board should ha cl to b present as well as thc jhc I 1 of county commissioners at such meeting ine eting the hii chii matter malter of tran from the old system to the te new nev should be gone over in an amicable way the members of the boards f burri um ashing th i new board with anfor matron mation about thier several districts on all matters of imort t ance As far as practicable the teachers should be engaged by the old boards but the new boards should be advised if f the i enga engagements g cements made and should firm immediately y take steps to com the list of teachers the I 1 purchase of all supplies up plies fuel fitel and equipments of all kinds should be left to the new board from the th e above it will be seen that consolidation is at our very doors and it is to be hoped that the board of county commissioners ners will act on the matter at their earliest possible convenience veni ence that the ensuing board may have ample time to make the necessary arrangements fori for the coming year and this will be ae no small matter for there are text books supplies and equipment of various kinds to be secured for about 25 2500 00 pupils school houses too will be required in some places while others must be repaired to make them fit for the winters use all this will take both time and labor and the earlier that it can be begun the better it will be for all it is desired that the trustees of the various districts will immediately begin to get their local school affairs in shape that they can on short notice turn all accounts and property over to the larger unit it is to be hoped that the pe people 0 as a whole will take kindly to these changes and do all in their power to make it a success from the first the system Is is I 1 new to us all and we have much experience to get but there theres is little doubt of the final out come the all important thing now is the appointment of big men I 1 to the office of directors men who can see beyond their own dooryards door yards to every nook and corner comer of this great county dis brict n ct men who can see the smallest boy or girl among the sagebrush of this wild country and give to them all the educational opportunities that they would bring to their own chil dren because a person may be selected to represent a particular section does not in any way mean that liis his interest I 1 does not extend beyond that sphere he is as truela responsible for the growth and development of one place as another may politics have no place in the matter but the best men for the positions be chosen then as citizens let us broaden our view see their larger duties and support them to the end respectfully J A washburn county superintendent |
