Precinct chairman, J. V. Mc-Lea Mc-Lea acted as chairman of the rally and introduced all but the principal speakers, with the exception ex-ception of Dr. Adam S. Bennion, who was introduced to the large crowd in attendance by Attorney Ray E. Dillman. Mr. Dillman in his introductory remarks explained ex-plained that Dr. Bennion has had years of training in the educational ed-ucational field, as well as being a big figure in the industrial world. Care in Voting Dr. Bennion laid great stress in the care of, voting, suggesting that the Voters this year, above all others, should survey the candidates can-didates on both tickets and after doing so choose the men who they felt will do the most good in bringing our State and nation back to normality. Says he, "be careful in your voting, if you want to vote a straight ticket do so, it is your American right, however, on the other hand if you vote a scratched ticket, be sure it is done right, by putting a cross opposite the name, and a line through the name you scratch. No Mud Slinging Dr. Bennion said that he and Senator Thomas had agreed to keep the campaign on a clean standard with no mud-slinging and that so far as he knew up-to-date, there had not been a breach of promise. Communist Take Hold The speaker referred to the seriousness of the communists in the United States of which there were about one million known, with the C. I. O. leader Hill-man Hill-man at the head, had organized a campaign slush fund for the sole purpose of re-electing the president and all other democrats. demo-crats. "I am sure we do not want to have our liberty taken away "rom us,-and be ruled as has Russia and Germany. Just think before voting!" 12 Years Too Much "I am amused at this one, says Dr. Bennion, we hear that same old saying do not change a horse in the midde of the stream. Well they have, the first team was Roosevelt Roose-velt and Garner and they chang-?d chang-?d Garner; then it was Mr. Wallace Wal-lace and they have changed Wallace. Wal-lace. I would rather start out with two new horses, said Dr. Bennion, than to have one of each that probably would not pull together. The caravan carrying the candidates can-didates who had been holding ralleys throughout 'the entire county, were late in arriving in Roosevelt, and for that reason the local and other candidates simply were introduced and made their bow. Those in attendance at-tendance were Mrs. Roy Priest, Republican National committee-woman; committee-woman; B. H. Stringham, Mayor of Vernal, who is running for Congress; Lt. Col Leland O. Gee, for State Treasurer; George E. Collard, for secretary of state; Charles R. Henderson, state sen-tor; sen-tor; Horace Allred, state representative; repre-sentative; Henry Wathen of Bluebell running for 2-year County Commissioner. County Chairman Heber T. Hall was in charge of the caravan and ralleys ral-leys conducted throughout the county. |
