Show I The "Old Timers" Obituary B7 Jame Nevlni Well, folks, some several weeks ago, your editor remarked that he had scanned the obituary columns col-umns for the Old Timer and he had seen no sign of the end of the old galoot. Here it is, the Obituary of the Old Timer. In his own peculiar fashion, he tried to do the best he could to bring before you your friends and neighbors, the Indians of the- Ute Indian Tribe. He tried to show you their hopes, their dreams and their aspirations. He tried to present you with a picture of life as it is lived in these modern times among the Indians of these modern times. Only you can tell whether he was a success or failure fail-ure in his aims. His only hope was that there might be in you some greater spark of friendliness, some clearer clear-er understanding and a sympathy for those who have lived in the same country with you. From your friendly comments and in the attitude of those he has come in contact with, I am sure the Old Timer will be pleased. For myself, I wish to thank one and ail for the friendly way you have taken my self and my family Into your homes and your community. Where ever we may go and whatever may happen in the future there will be always a Pfrt of us remaining in the Uintah Basm and a feeling in our hearts that home has been left behind us. In the Government service there can be .no -settling down in a community. You must always been putting down new roots and as abruptly be tearing them out again. We are being transferred to new work in Rosebud, South Dakota. Our only hope Is that there we will be met by the same fine friendliness and cordial cord-ial humaness that we have found here. May you continue in the paths you have laid out to future success suc-cess and greater fields of goodness. good-ness. You have a great populace r u ne PePle yu have a land rich in opportunity, you have inspiring in-spiring scenes of natural grandeur, grand-eur, you have men of foresight and vision as leaders, I am sure you will be a great island empire in the future. May you look on your friends the Indians, as people with the same attributes, the same, ambitions ambi-tions and desires as yourself. May you continue to live with them in neighborliness and friendliness. My hope is that you will find a common ground of sympathy and understanding and that all discords and friction will vanish in the vistas of future time. An now, as the Old Timer would say, 'Til be a-seeing of you." |
