That reaction may turn what looked like a pretty predictable political year into one of fun and excitement. Maybe theres life in the old party yet. The reasons are twofold; Even though some of them are given great national publicity, some do not qualify under the standards of the United Fund because the cost of fund raising and administration is excessive, and others because they have a national of not wanting to Join United Fund, Siiicy they can obtain more otherwise. "At the risk of making myself unpopular with certain fundraising agencies, may 1 report to you that the Easter Seal Drive has taken as much as 50 percent of the Intake tor the cost of and administration. No wonder it does not qualify for inclusion in the United Fund. The March of Dimes program has spent as much ss 35 percent at its Intake for fund raising and administration. I do not think that if these facts were generally known, that business people and others would feel Justified in giving to agencies of this kind. fund-raisi- Published every Thursday by Great Western News, Inc. The Easter Seal drive spent at least 50 of its intake for fund raising and administration and the March of Dimes spent 35 for the same purposes. You object to these figures because you claim that these agencies do not spend that much for fund raising and administration in Utah. Thus you state that "Easter Seals spends 27.4 percent of its Intake for fund raising and administration in Utah." But you admit that "an additional part goes to the national Easter Seal Foundation - part of which Is spent for service, part for administration. The facts of the matter are, however, that when the United Fund officials called the Utah Easter Seal officials to ask for their fund-raisi- and administration ng costs, they were told that these figures were not available without a further detailed study. Indeed, we were told by the auditors that no audit has been made to show what these costs are. So I do not know where or how you got your figures.
