Show I Jobs Increase Elementary Languages: Problem Is Finding Qualified Teachers ; Continued from page DAYS 10 THRILLING ENTERTAINMENT Superintendent of Schools in the Jordan District, said the major problem is to find teachers who are qualified to teach language as well as other subjects. "An elementary teacher must be able to teach all academic and physical education subjects, and few have become competent enough in a foreign language to teach this too," Mr. Beckstead said. The turn -- over in teachers adds to this problem, he said. Mr. Beckstead believes that a certain discipline comes with the aquisition of a foreign language in those students who have the interest and aptitude. Whether foreign languages will become a part of the elementary school program in the future of Jordan District would depend on the availability of UTAH STATE FAIR PAGEANT. in the Riverside Stake Center 24, Sep. He said the district had experimented with language teaching via closed circuit television for about two years. "It was a good exploratory program but it needed more continuity into junior high school " Most parents seem favorable toward the program and at some future time it might be continued. Under the districts present set-u- p, teachers and principals have recommended that it not be continued, he said. The pendulum swings In the opposite direction in other parts of the country bearing up the importance of reaching children while they are young. Pushing toward this goal is Dr. Wilder Penfield, director of the Montreal Neurological Institute, who says his studies have convinced him that the human brain starts to lose its natural language-learnin- g later capabilities during childhood years, according to an article in the Wall Street Journal Aug. 18, 1965. In California, Klaus A.
