WHAT CAN OR SHOULD BE DONE ABOUT EDUCATION IN UTAH? F. Nelson: Theres difficulty on both sides. Id hope to do more but we cant do It by disrupting business and other taxes. We should conRawlings: tinue to better schools within the limit of ability to pay. Next session of legislature should not be bound to that report because It never stated where funds were to come from. Bentine: Teachers are making a show of strength but maybe they are ng their ability. Rockwood: Thats a hard question to answer. We need more money. The study was fine and should be considered In every respect. Done: Theres no pat solution. Lots of work and serious discussion on both sides has to be done. Neither side has all the answers. I think Its the responsibility of a legislature to find out how people really feel and act accordingly. Scott We should have a merit system of rating teachers, better use of schoolfacllitles, consolidation of school districts. I was quite Impressed with thk report and the people on the committee. I would raise Income or sales tax before property taxes. v?
