The 6lympUs team, paced by rugged Howard Collins, took first place in the field while Skyline pulled pleasant surprise by finishing high with a third-plac- e finish. Ogdens find club missed first place by five - plus seconds but made itself the biggest threat to Olympus chances of whining next year for a third time - thereby retiring the mammoth trophy -- donated by SaltLakebusiness-ma- n Art Knudsen. Collins top time was 1:26.5 over the mushy slopes of Park Citys Payday giant slalom course. The got an v strong Olympus Senior early start in the mens lineup and made good use of it as he dashed ov i the somewhat soft snow, Collins had plenty of able help. Teaming w.th the alpine ace was Keith Lamer, Creighton Wirick, Russ Benson and Wayne Petty. On the girls team were Carol Ure, Chip Hall and Daisy Davidson. team fared B Olympus well in the competition, finishing eighth above Provo, Judge II, Murray, West and Hillcrest. Skyline was the surprise of the day. The Skyline skiers had a ' good afternoon in both the men and womens classes. The Eagles had more team balance than most figured. Giving the gals team the strength in the giant slalom was Julie Smith, Kathy Daun and Linda Ferries. But the overal strength came from the mens team paced by Bob Hoge, Tommy James, John Raemer, Austin Amundson and Jim Sage. Highland, hampered by Dave Jenkins disqualification for missing a gate, finished seventh with fine performances by gals Linda Jenkins, Sue Lang and Sally Slagle while Dave .Jenkins got good help from teammates Steve Sphng-meye- r, Jim Shafer, Dan and Joh Frank.
