It was back in 1947 that the Board of Salt Lake County Commissioners signed the ordinance which set into motion Cue wheels of the present county recreation department. The ever busy recreation staff under the able leadership of Paul Rose now boasts one of the finest programs to be found anywhere in the nation. recreation board composed of civic, business, and education leaders governs the entire recreation operation. Still another important factor which adds to the success of the program is the fine spirit of cooperation that exists between the recreation department and the four school districts which exist within the county boun-dne- s. A an Summer activity is but a of the total recreation Mr. Rose and the picture. recreation staff conduct a part well-round- ed year-rou- nd pro- gram which is designed to fill the recreational and leisure time activity needs of all people, regardless of age or physical status. Basketball and volleyball for both men and women take up the winter months, along with a Junior bowling and Junior basketball two Boys Clubs program, operate the entire year, and a youth center is nearing completion at Kearns. The recreation movement is geared for all ages. A Senior Cihxens Recreation Center at 237 is a beehive South 10th East of activity for youngsters" 60yearsoldand over.
