The act has outraged the community, which want him imprisoned, but Dysart is persuaded to seek the causes, and to perhaps, return the boy to 'normal.' Equus has made a remarkable impact internationally. It is the first play to make a clean sweep of the New York Awards field, garnering the Tony, Outer Circle Critic's Award, Drama Desk Award, and the New York Critic's Award. Time Magazine called the play's October 1974 opening in New York "An historical event", provoking a spontaneous ovation unequalled since 'death of a Salesman' opened in 1949. Equus is still playing to capacity audiences on Broadway, has been translated into eight languages, and has been presented in Europe, Japan and South American. . " $ 1 ' ; U i ? u ' ; i vi WILL BE DONE HONESTLY OR NOT AT ALL." We wish to reiterate that there are scenes in Equus involving nudity, both male and female. (There is, however, no simulated sex act.) . Anyone who feels they may be offended by this aspect of the play may return their tickets prior to performance.. For Theatre 138's season ticket holders an alternate play, "Interface" by Kenneth Post, will be offered.
