Show OIL & MINING JOURNAL Page 8 Sept. 22, 1969 Modern Minerals finds Very rich vein in California Copper-zin-c A Salt Lake Citybased oil and mining company has announced the discovery of a very rich vein about twelve copper-zin- c miles east of Marysville, Calif. Jack E. Blankenship, president of Modern Minerals Corp., said the property lies on trend between the Spenceville Mine in Yuba County and the Big Bend Mine in Butte County, Each' of these mines has produced well over a million pounds of copper ore, Blankenship said. Modem Minerals reports that sample assays from the ore face and drill holes have run as high as 20 per cent copper and 12 per cent zinc with an average assay across the ore face of seven per cent copper and 12 per cent zinc. The ore, which has high iron and sulphur content, also has silver values of two ounces per ton. Modern Minerals Corp. began work at the property in March. After preliminary drilling, an old shaft, which appears to have been originally opened before the turn of the century, was pumped out revealing a vein of ore visible from 15 feet below the surface to 100 feet deep with a width of two feet at the top to about five feet at the, bottom. The company reports' that the floor of a 40Toot drift at the' 100-fo- level indicates ot the ore goes below the level, although no deeper drilling has been done to determine total depth of the ore body. Eighteen test holes have been drilled and the company is currently carrying out a program 100-fo- ot also underway to determine smilting and separation requirements. are The company holds a the in area block 1700-acr- e under option from John Mullican of Sutter, Calif., purchaser of lenses on the property. Modem Minerals Corp., has widespread oil and gas lease holdings with production of over 9,000 barrels of oil a month in the Kitty and Oedekoven fields of Wyoming. Studies T ooele County gets lands title WASHINGTON, DC.-Uta- hs Tooele County has received title from the federal government to 2,319 acres of public land on the western shore of the Great Salt Lake. This was noted last Tuesday by Sen. Frank E. Moss, who quoted a resolution passed in June by the Tooele County Commission that the land will accommodate future expansion of a magnesium project on the D-Ut- ah, lake, about 10 miles north of Delle. I have been working for some time with the Bureau of Land Management and Tooele County Commissioners on the sale of this land, said Sen. Moss. The transaction is of major importance to the magnesium project, which of course is of major importance to the future growth not only of Tooele County but the entire state. Tooele County paid the appraised fair market value of $69,000. The government received a reserved ownership of mineral deposits in the land and for canals and rights-of-wa- y ditches.
