appropriate prop and we are all better for their visit mr evans chief point was that tho the primary purpose of a 1 high school course is not to give a student a head bead full 0 f facts but rather a life full of power and while developing ve loping this theme he pointed out that since there were more girls in high school these days than boys there is just a bare possibility that the next net generation may discover this world to be a womans comans orld instead of a mans world if the ahe girls go to school and develop the power what Is to prevent them from having the control too mr mchoes message was waa to the effect that the purpose of the high school was to mako make men and women he suggested that it take much work to make a crop of weeds grow but that to produce a crop of worth announces the coming of the lyceum course to the city of richfield there has been some complaint in the past about having these entertainments tain ments in the high school andl auditorium because of sophomore years were vero taught in a very tex lew rooms roams in the public school thero there wore were no conveniences and teachers were very scarce everything was nas unfavorable for an education for the young people in their own home town vera ver fean ie could afford or make the nce necessary essary arrangements to go aay atter after completing the first two years here thus their education du cation to a very great detent was Qt dremely remely Mr emely limited As education grow grew and became more important the parents began to realize what a drawback it would be to their children they understood that if their children were ivere to by be equally as good citizens as any in the community or state they gain gaill the same knowledge that other oung people of the state were rapidly I 1 gaining sleeting meetings wore were called I 1 hie he subject was thoroughly dacus sed at last they alried at the cou elusion that a high school would be built by the people of sexier seiler count as the other two had been the work nork was inas immediately begun and in a nery ery short time the building nias as complete and open to the stud enis I 1 the first or trial year inas ft as not a very marked success courage iia as not lost however teachers and parents with inith the help of the students s struggled t along for a few ears it went ent along fairly well then it was thought that the juniors and seniors should go to richfield making junking a junior or high cf our high school including the two lower classes of high school and tho the seventh and eighth grades that was argued down doin hoN however Never and we succeeded in keeping the high school as it stood each year the student body has grown immensely and the numbers 0 of f faculty members has increased 11 improvements 1 have been added making mak ing it more convenient for both teachers and students now new subjects are being given all the time making school life much more interesting of course as in every high school public school store factory or almost anything that can be mentioned there is room for improvement but wo we shall be satisfied as every institution ution must be to take the best we can get the school year of 1921 22 is going to bo be one of the most successful most interesting and most lively years of all the faculty is one lie that can not bo be beaten for knowledge pep patience and well good loohs no exceptions tho the student body although all the students are not in I 1 yet is one that stands for hard work I 1 work that they can actually derive a benefit from as is well inell us its good athletics and sports of all kinds they also are arc going to put student body government over in a way that has never been dono done before we have all heard the saying great oaks from little acorns grow we can compare that to our school it was at one time a small institution but it is growing growing rapidly each year it can be said bald that it is largo large now but in the future will bo be larger bopf opening nin of school on september fifteenth if anyone had chanced to pass tho the high school building he would have seen a sight to be remembered tho the halls classrooms assembly and the yards ards surrounding the building were thronging with students of course he be would conclude that school had started no not exactly started tho the students were just registering gi and rushing around tho the building in order to get them all gathered together to gether there first assembly was held A good look was taken of tho the faculty after which mr olon olion and mr snow each gave a very interesting talk after getting somewhat acquainted with one another the students again passed pas ed into the different parts of the building to resume their registering of course there was a great deal of confusion when the forenoon had sped by many of the students were tired of this sort of thing so most of them left s acol until the following morning friday was vas much tho the samo same as thursday thurida only perhaps some more students were inere on an hand but monday was a great deal different the students started in with IN ith a vim everyone was nearly streight ened out in lils classes so the they all bent ent into the classes clashes with a decision to making old S S H a success this ear car on oil tuesday morning the class work was IS going on oil smoothly when mr onen olsen announced the fact that ar mr alman A was present the students ants of S S H kno what that m means eq ns if aai anyone hiie does not he should happen aling al jai sometime and hear some of his pep talks the one he gave last tuesday morning was one of the best he has ever given ho told the students student to remember economy more than ever before and also gave them some good points on the benefits of college end and high school education on oil the whole the tha school is pro gr gre isag esing nery ery rapidly one leason for this progress I 1 is that south seiler seier has such a splendid faculty tuesday at 11 1115 15 principal 0 olson son called all the students to tile the assembly where lie he told us that superintendent in intend eDt ashman was present and wished N to speak to us superintendent ashman talked of the wonderful things an education can call do for one and also emphasized tho fact that saying saving money be considered this year in dress and in the school room his talk was rendered in such 3 a way that although the scholars were held xay way past luncheon n time 11 not ot oil OIK of them noticed it after this assembly was dismissed a second meeting was called together this li however oever was ivas not for all the students superintendent A J ashman was the speaker speak cr principal olson and the truck gang mado made up tho the congregation the truck gang is the joseph cove austin and elsinore boys and girls attending the S S H S superintendent ashman in this session said that two trucks would be given for the S S ff S to use that means cove and joseph will have one truck elsinore and austin another then if some fault is found with the driving the time the truck arrives in monroe or if the truck is in poor condition for winter traveling anyone of the truck gang has the right to report to the school board no doubt this will seem good as other years they had to taku aliat they could get and make no complaint or if they did complain nothing vas done only one tault lault has been found so far and that was the misbehavior havier of some of the boys this was reported to one of the school board members and now the truck is traveling back and borth in excellent condition at the south sevier hibi the south sevier high school is undergoing a lev lei beneficial changes this year both in class and tho the arrangement of the different departments part ments the first and probably the most noted change is that which is taking place in the domestic science department part ment mas heywood who is at the blight change in class routine is that of english A which now comes at eight fifteen whereas la last st 3 lear ear it took up the nine period therefore students who take this particular class have been obliged to set their alarm clocks one hour ahead with thebe improvements and with the help of an ail encouraging faculty the south sevier high school is very opt 1 to make inake a reputation tor
