Show visa IT UINTAH BASIN president newman erb and other officials of the denver salt lake railroad company recently finished a tour by automobile of tile the uintah basin tile herald republican of salt lake city published an interview with mr erb in which lie is said to have stated that north east ern arn utah is the greatest agricultural and mining section in in the united states speaking of tile the proposed ex of the denver and salt lake from craig colo to salt lake city mr erb said tile the building of the denver and salt lake from craig to salt lake thru the uintah basin depends on the salt lake capitalists and business men I 1 came thru the greatest agricultural and mining section in ill the united states in the last two days and it is a shame that it remain undeveloped for the lack of a railroad there is no other section of this country that is so rich as the uintah basin we are ready to build the railroad if we can call get gel the money we are here to see the salt aake businessmen and see sec what they will do I 1 want to say that if salt lake receives us right and gives us aid the road will be built right away 1 I find a great return to prosper in the east railroad securities are coming back to their own the transportation lines of this country have been harassed by adverse legislation so long that a halt to it has been called by the people taking this as an opportune op time we are going to appeal to salt lake to aid us in building a railroad thru the richest country that lies out 0 of doors I 1 have a plan which I 1 think will appeal to the people of salt lake denver has aided in the building of the road and now we are coming to salt lake to ask if the people here will not aid us in placing this city in connection with the richest part of utah so far we have seen no report as to the decision of the salt lake business men with W ith reference to this matter but it is to be hoped that they will give it serious and careful consideration if they do there can be but one result the road will be built and that immediately nothing could be undertaken at the present tinne time that would mean more for utah and especially for salt lake city there are people in that isolated section who are compelled to haul their marketable produce a distance of from 60 to miles to the railroad the bulk of their supplies have been coming from denver ever since the country has been thrown open to the white settler because the business men of that city were awake to their own interests and offered better transportation por tation inducements than did salt lake it would seem that the uintah basin with its people already established on permanent homes with its acres of unexcelled lands its abundance of water its immense hydrocarbon hydro carbon deposits and its dependable climate etc would appeal to salt lake business men above anything else now open for consideration and we should like to suggest that the matter of raising funds with which to build the connecting link of railroad between craig and salt lake would be only an easy task for the committee that promoted AA class baseball |
