Show V held for accident victim monroe youth drowned in canal seepage hole funeral services were held sunday in the monroe north ward chapel for R D newby 19 s son 0 n of angus newby who drowned thursday in a seepage hole in the south bend canal near monroe the accident occurred just nine months from the day the youths mother was killed in an automobile accident near gunnison R D and a cousin had gone bathing just after eating lunch bathing in the cold water under hot sunshine just after eating caused him to take a cramp the body was not recovered until nearly four hours after the accident rescuers worked for two hours in a futile attempt to revive the youth R D newby was born at monroe january 5 1921 he was a graduate of the south Sevier high school at monroe and had attended snow college where he was elected athletic manager last spring surviving besides his fattier father are two brothers burns and donald two sisters maxine and gweneth and his ants mr and mrs john robinson the funeral was conducted by bishop lyle asay the choir directed by mrs lyle asay and accompanied compa nied by miss elinore jensen sang sometime well understand and beyond the smiling other musical numbers were my fattier father knows sung by a quartet reeve hansen david dyches wesley lundgreen and lynn lundgreen accompanied by mrs lyle asay unanswered yet sung by mrs spencer D ellsworth and a violin solo played by miss beth white speakers were arthur C lundgreen C A white president james A of snow college and bishop asay the invocation was by hans hansen the benediction by arlo richardson walter 0 lundgreen dedicated the grave interment being in in the monroe cemetery pallbearers Pall bearers were cousins relief society members carried the flowers |
