Show S N PAID FINAL SUNDAY military rites conducted Conduct iA by battery E interment here an appropriate tribute was paid peter gottfredson veteran a and n d pioneer of sanpete and sevier counties who passed away at his home here february 20 when members of battery E P F A and officers of the sons and daughters of utah pioneers and indian war veterans participated in funeral services held for him at noon sunday in the sevier stake tabernacle the semi military service was presided over by captain J R barker of battery E who also is a member of the third ward bishopric mr Gottfred sons life replete with service and interesting experiences perien ces furnished the theme of discourses by speakers R T thurber of richfield john dastrup of sigurd J B hughes of spanish fork state commander and J J banks of spanish fork state adjutant of the sons and daughters of utah pioneers and indian war veterans among the especially interesting items from the biography of the prominent pioneer were the reference made by R T thurber to the part he played in the early settlement of sevier county among other things to an exploration trip made by mr gottfredson mr Thur bers father and others when they gave names to many places such as bear valley pine creek and grass valley mr hughes and mr banks were unstinting in their praise of mr Gottfred sons work in assisting his comrades of the indian wars to obtain recognition of their services and in organizing gan izing and supporting the state company of black hawk indian war veterans and later the sons and daughters of these pioneers john dastrup of sigurd expressed special appreciation of thel the part mr gottfredson had played in the development of the town of sigurd and in a church capacity in that ward aher he served for 20 years as bishop music consisted of the selections the lord is my shepherd and tarry with me oh my savior by a vocal quartet composed of mrs L A poulson miss marien ien bean H B mendenhall and ed Mortn sen a cello solo by AL L done and a baritone solo hold thou my hand by E L sv alberg of gunnison the opening prayer was by jacob dastrup the benediction by A T money of spanish fork interment was in the sigurd cemetery where august malmquist dedicated the grave A firing squad from battery E fired a volley over the grave and taps was sounded |
