Hunt said Tuesday that a group of Democratic governors is urging President Truman to appoint Gov. Maw of Utah as secretary of the interior. Sen. Joseph C. OMahoney of Wyo ming had been mentioned prominently in connection with post, but declared he definitely was not interested in the position. Governor Hunt, following OMa-honestatement, suggested at a governors conference last week at Mackinack Island, Mich., that his colleagues back Governor Maw. All of the western Democratic governors signed a letter to the pres ident, asking him to name Maw to the cabinet position. It was the concensus of western states governors, Hunt said, that a westerner should he interior secretary, since many of the interests and opportunities of- that department lie in the west. It also was felt. Hunt said, that the secretary should be from a public land state, one which is concerned with the Taylor grazing lands, national parks and national forests, and in which the federal government has a stake through federally-controlle- d oil lands. Governor Hunt said he personally felt that Maw would be very friendly to Wyomings attitude on matters controlled by the Interior CHEYENNE,, Wyo., -- ys - . op : U.S. Treasury Department , - ? .
