Campus Dog Fledged to Greek Letter Fraternity Bismarck is Columbus, Ohio. just a plain dog, but he has been pledged by an Ohio State University fraternity, and thus becomes the only canine in the world officially affiliated with a Greek letter organization. The lanky, tan dog, living at the Zeta Beta Tau house, is well known by a majority of the students and professors on the campus here. He has been loyal to Zeta Beta Tau since last winter when he was picked up, freezing and Bismarck nearly caused his fraternity to sever diplomatic relations with the girls sorority, Alpha Epsilon Phi, recently. Walking into the feminine headquarters, the dog was ordered out by one of the coeds, who later, admitted she did not realize she was addressing such an important personage. Immediately, every Zeta Beta Tau present rose in anger and stalked out of the house, behind their canine Before the injured pledge-brothe- r. brothers would return, they asked for, and received, a suitable half-starve- " tftawa Offe 3 ( d mb' (zmua j- 1 - h Silver Service . Halifax, N. Si Bluenose sailor-medescendants of the iron men who sailed wooden ships fifty years ago, are a thing of the past, in the opinion of Captain Angus Walters, skipper of the most famous of all Nova Scotia fishing vessels, the Lunenburg Banker Bluenose. The. pleasure-lovin- g generation of today are a bunch of .softies, commented the man who took comwhen mand of the Bluenose launched in 1921 and has helped her keep her title of queen of the North Atlantic fishing fleet ever since. The future of the fishing industry in Nova Scotia was threatened by a shortage of young men willing to dare the hardships and dangers of bank fishing, the Bluenose skipper declared in an interview here. He did not know if this shortage was caused by the prospect of poor returns from fishing or whether it was just the effects of our pleasure-seeking age, he said. Automobiles, radios, dance music and other distractions had lured the young men away from the sea, he added. Noxious weeds are gaining ground in Utah through the planting of infested seed in spite of considerable effort in weed control work. In general, rangeland has gone down in productivity, decreasing the forage for livestock and materially reducing the potential supply of irrigation and culinary water for the valleys. The above statement indicates' that in spite of the progress made in a number of respects in Utah, there are ytt many complex and difficult problems which need solving. Thus it would seem that rural pe pie can well afford to look into their particular county problems through county planning hoards and see what might be done to improve rural living and point the way ahead.
