Norris Jr. , I 1 ' New Plan for County Exhibits at State Fair County agricultural exhibits in the. Utah State Fair this year, October 4 to II, will be judged on the basis of , the value of the crop to Utah, rather than on the varieties of crops as heretofore, according to an announcement made today by Ernest S. Holmes manager. We believe the counties can benefit under this new arrangement, says Mr. Holmes because the purpose of the State Fair. is to develop recognition for the outstanding products of the State. By encouraging each county to feature the particular agricultural, horticultural or field- - crop which is its most valuable commercial product this can be accomplished. We have ' submitted the idea to county agents and boards of county commissions and find them, without exception, heartily in accord with the idea. From present indications, the interest displayed in the State Fair this year is fully equal to, if not greater than years past. Tim Agricultural Building is assured of being filled to capacity with exhibits which, will place this State on display before its people.' The cattle were driven from Hams Fork thru to Cokeville, Wyo., and sold. with the Nelson charged L. R. Is a Bear Lake County boy. He plead guilty of stealing fifteen heada of beef cattle, most of them from of Wyoming, and sold them to Danford & Larson. They in turn were shipped to Ogden and perhaps at this time are on the meat block. The brand of the Wyoming owner is B with a bar underneath and then C. The rustler recorded this brand in his name in Idaho and was sitting pretty until the loss of the cattle were traced to him. At the time he sold the stock to Danford & Larson he turned over the said brand certificate, which was genuine as far as it went, as there were no other brands of that descrip tion recorded with the state brand inspector in Idaho. He waived extradition papers and Sheriff Hulme is turning him over to the Sheriff of Wyoming today where he will be placed on trial. e Car-oll- . ' - - e week. There are twenty prizes in all with a purse o $100 for first prize in each of the middle and heavy weight classes. There is much interest in the intermountain match at the State Fair and there is every indication that new records will be made. The worlds record for teams weighing under 3000 pounds was held jointly by the team of John Draayer, Clinton, Utah, weighing 2950 pounds, and the team of Roy Parks, Provo, Utah, weighing 2990 pounds. Both of these teams pulled 3100 pounds even at the 1929 Utah State Fair and have held the worlds record to date. Howr, ever, this year the team of C. E. Des Moines, Iowa, weighing 2975 pounds, pulled 3125 pounds the full distance of 27I4 feet at the recent Iowa State Fair. The Parks and Draayer teams are now in training to break the record of the Iowa horses and prospects are mighty bright for their doing it. In the heavy weight class, that is, teams weighing over 3000 pounds, the team of George Wilcox of Greenville, Ohio, weighing 3780 pounds, set a new world's record this year by pulling 3550 pounds the full distance of 27 feet. Mr. U. E. Overlade of Provo, at the Utah State Fair last year.pulled 3400 pounds even with hit team weighing 3340 pounds. This is the heaviest team on record that has polled more than its own weight. There are some half dozen heavy weight teams in Utah this year that are out to crack the worlds record of the Ohio horses at 3550 pounds, all of which is creating unusual interest this year in the intermountain match. The Utah State Fair is preparing this year to eonduct the matches upon dry sod which affords the best possible course over which to pull. In esse of rain the course will be protected with canvas. For the second consecutive year the Utah State Fair will prepare a printed program which will be available to the audience and contestants alike. The teams under 2700 pounds and those between 2700 pounds and 3000 pounds will weigh in at nine oclock sharp and will pull at ten oclock the morning of Tuesday, October 7. The teams weighing 3000 pounds and over will weigh in and pull at the same hour on Wednesday, October 8. All teams will be weighed on normal feed and water.
