Show 4 ideath death ends long useful career of james brown sr ve the long on and eventful career carcer of tames jales brown sr 78 came caine to a I 1 close at a ni wednesday when he ed away a it his als home on mahi in this city death came as a relief to a long period of illness ana intense in suffering all members of K the immediate family wre wire at his bed 1 side when death carne came he had bad been F 1 in fails health for an and d for the last two or p 1 thi ec years had hardly seen d a well li day t he was born born at calder caldei bank nan baich bai kh scotland may 24 1861 he received his early education in th the I 1 public schools of his native I 1 land and in p the ye yc or 1878 he canie came to the united as a convert to the L D S faroli fart li por par a year he made his horrie home fm fj 1 n salt lake city from there he 1 lerned l moved to almy working at the coa coal anin for a short period he then ac cepter employment as a blacksmith in the union pacific shops at ait evanston and followed that vocation until i the year 1893 at that time he wlas was at appointed deputy county clerk of uinta aint county serving under the late judg 1 john R ainold this gasn wasn was really the beginning of his political career which chic 1 ended with his retirement from froin of flee in january of this year bishop brown PG s he was widely hiowt was appointed presiding elder of the Ev evanston anton L D S branch a the age of seventeen two years la apte he was in made ade bishop of the evans I 1 ion n ward which position he held for three years in 1904 he return continued on last page death ends long useful career of james brown sr continued from page one of nl 1 ed to his native land where he served for two years 6 a at missionary of the L D S church after being released as bishop of th E evanston va ward he served for many years as a counselor in the presidency of the woodruff stake in 1929 he was ordained a patriarch in ills ill church which position he held until his death he was also a member or of the high priests quorum of the woodruff stake he was elected as county clerk of uinta county in 1895 an I 1 served in that capacity for four consecutive i terms he was first elected as clerk of court of uinta county in 1918 and continued in that office for twenty years he did not seek reelection re election last year because of his failing health he was vitally interested in the education edu dation of the youth and for some 25 years was a member of the board of education of the Ev Evan aniston school district he was an active member of the evanston Ew anston chamber of commerce and its predecessors the eve pistons lions club and the evanston commer j cial club he took an active part in other civic and community eions was a life long democrat a lover of pence peace and a tir tireless eless booster fot for his city county state and nation H he was as recognized as one of the most powerful and convincing public speakers in this section of the country on july 27 1882 bishop brown was married to miss hunter 1 salt lake city four sons and three daughters were born to them hia wife wie one son and one dauch daughter ter preceded him to the great beyond he is survived by the following sons anol and daughters james brown jr and ana mrs newell johnston Johnst con of evanston william brown of hollywood calif onria frank brown lovell wyoming W Y 0 mrs L L biassey of hollywood calif surviving also are one broth brother r frank B brown r 0 w n of ev evanston Eva ans naton t oil and two sisters mrs mary brown glenn seattle wash and mrs eliz brown lanark banark ida twenty five grand children and three great grand children funeral services will be held in the evanston L D S eh chapel apel friday june 23 at 2 p in it is expected that elder david 0 mcray mi a member of the first presidency of the L D S church a native of scotland land and si close personal friend of bishop brown will oe a speaker at the service interment will be in m the city cemetery under the direction of bryan mortuary it is doubtful if there is a man in wyoming who has performed more marri marriage oge ceremonies or preached preach ed more funeral services to the people of his hii county or than has bishop james brown reliable generous willing honest and straight forward he was without doubt one on of the most beloved and widely respected citizens of this great state uinta county herald 11 kranston Kv vall anston ton wyo |
