Show The Rich County News, December 29, 1983, Pane 8 Ll more of the same as the Braves extended their lead by 18 points, 51 by Larry Johnson Coach Jim Boatwright brought his talented Braves to Randolph Thursday evening to do battle with the South Rich Trojans. Star Valley was led by six foot three , inch Orrin Schaub and six foot five inch Jeff Lowe, and some outstanding shooting from Layne Walton. The Braves quickly jumped to a 12 - 6 first quarter lead. The Trojans got their first point on a free throw with three minutes and thirty six seconds left in the first quarter, and their first basket with two minutes and forty eight seconds left. The second quarter found the Braves pounding the Trojans, and moving to a 33 - 16 half time lead. Playing well for South Rich in the first half, was Cfiad Peart, with a basket and four for four from the foul line, and Shawn Buckley and Gordon Tate with two baskets each. Third quarter moved on with -- 33. The final quarter showed a little of what the Trojans are made of, bit as they cut the Star Valley lead to five points on the strength of some great foul shooting by Chad Peart, who was six for six and finished the game 12 for 12 from the foul line. Darrin Tingesy had a good quarter with three baskets and Shawn Buckley added five more points. The final score was Star Valley 69, South Rich 56. The Braves were nine for fifteen from the foul line for the game, and were led in scoring by Lane Walton with 22 points, Orrin Schaub with 20 points, Lance Robinson nine and Jeff Lowe eight. Having had a great night from the foul line, the Trojans hit on 16 for 20, and were led in scoring by Chad Peart with 20, Shawn Buckley, 14 and Darrin Tingey, ten. Offensively, leading rebounders were again Anderson, Mills, and Wamsley. The determined effort continuously put forth by these athletes secured their lead, and prevented a rally by the Miners. Third quarter scoring was ten points for the Mustangs and eleven for the Miners, with the Miners still struggling, 32 to 45. As Coach Wamsley reminisced, the game was hard to the bitter end. Fourth quarter action was indeed hard fought, with both teams moving successfully on the hoop. But the Miners just couldnt overpower the superior technical play of North Rich. Allowing for his teams lagging foul line attempts of eleven for twenty one, Wamsley indicated that the whole game was won on the boards. With the last seconds of the game ticking away.
