Show The Rich County News, December 29, 1983, Page 5 Around He Uorl by Ruth Smith Parents, relatives, and friends packed into the South Rich Auditorium Thursday night, December 15, to see 126 children from the kindergart-?- . fi?st, and second grades perform the annual Christmas elementary program. The theme of the evenings entertainment was Christmas the World. Each of the six classes depicted a country from different areas of the world. Slides, accompanied each countrys presentation. A highlight of the evening was a Scott Barkley, bagpipe rendition. in a authentic Scottish outfit, dressed accompanied the second grade . children as they danced the Highland Fling. The second grader also depicted America, singing some favorite Christmas songs such as Frosty the Snowman and Holly Jolly Christmas. Christmas poems were recited by Michael Stapleton, Deny Wilson, Susan Livovich, Marily Muir, and Millie Hopkin. Heard the Bells on Christmas Day was performed by the second The band also grade pipe band. as they the children accompanied Silver Bells. sang Children from the afternoon kindergarten had an opportunity to break a Mexican reindeer pinata. When the pinata broke the children scattered to pick up the goodies. The Kindergarten students were costumed in sombreros and Spanish dresses. They sang Jolly Old St. Nicholas in the Spanish language. The first grader were dressed in red as they performed a Swedish song and a Swedish dance entitled the Swedish Clap Dance. Australian hikers from Mrs. Bents first grade class recited poems in unison and sang songs portraying life in Australia. Pictures drawn by the children were displayed during the Australian performance. I The morning kindergarten students performed a polka dance and sang song representing Christmas in Germany. The finale was performed by the six classes. Silent They sang Night in English and Japanese. Then the sixth graders joined the group to sing Its a Small World. The song, featuring two melodies sung at the same time, was accompanied by sixth graders on ukuleles. Narrators for the evening were Tiffany Hoffman, Jared Argyle, Charlie Balch, Michael Stapleton, Jerri Spencer, and Nicole Bingham. Prelude Christmas music was played by the fifth grade students on recorders. Calvin Ward, a second grade teacher, was the director of the elementary play. Program covers were designed by Tanya McKinnon and S.P. Valentine. Williamson, the South Rich High School and Junior High School Music Department presented a Christmas Concert Wednesday, December 21. By special request, Williamson began the evenings enb riainment by singing some Christmas songs, accompanying himself on ihe guitar. The twenty-on- e member high school chorus sang a collection of five popular songs by Neil Diamond and Lional Richie. The stage performance was most impressive as the g performers changed their stage with each song. The songs were accompanied by a stereo. As members of the choir entered the stage area, they sang Neil Diamonds Hello. posit-tionin- Kevin Anderson and Terri Cornia were soloists for the song Some Love in Truly. Just Put Your Heart was a thought-provokin- g song and slide presentation. Slides were shown that helped 53 $5.08 remind those in attendance of the love needed for the unfortunate around the world. A square dance was performed by eight members of the choir during the song On the Robert E. Lee. The small, inexperienced, ten-memb- band performed er three Christmas numbers. Those performing in the band were: Trudy Feller, Cornet; Mellissa Hopkin, French Horn; Myrna Hatch, Susan Stacy, Susan Hatch Clarinet; Gary Jacob son. Trumpet; Texie Johnson, Trombone; Joan Wilson, Percussion; and Steve Stacy, Bass Guitar. The last Jolly Old St. Nicholas song, featured a clarinet trio. The junior high chorus sang four numbers. The songs were sung in three parts - soprano, alto and tenor. The high school choir ended the program with three Christmas numbers. Williamson thanked accompanists Jeanette Schulthess, LouAnn Argyle and VaLayne Hadley.
