Show IU1 Ini By Larry Johnson Ralph Johnsons South Rich Trojans Friday evening played host to Bill Browns North Summit Braves in the opening league game for both teams. It appeared after the first two minutes that it might be a long evening for the Trojans as the 0 lead and Braves grabbed an 8 advanced their lead to 12 2. At this point, Shawn Buckley and Chad Peart combined to lead a South Rich charge which brought them right back into the ballgame. Shawn hit two field goals and three from the foul line, and Chad responded with two field goals and three from the foul line as they trailed the Braves 25 - 23 at the end of the first quarter. The second quarter proved to be a fun one for the South Rich crowd as the Trojans fast break really got rolling. Shawn Buckley continued with some outstanding foul shooting as he went six for six. Coming off the bench to give a spark was Shawn Groll who added five for six from the line and one field goal. Darrin to action also contributed the Tingey the and four with Trojans led points 41 48 at the intermission. The third quarter found the Trojans having an opportunity to blow the game wide open on the type strength of some easy lay-u- p shots, but for some unknown reason, the ball refused to fall through the hoop and North Summit closed the third quarter gap to 62 59. The final quarter saw Coach Ralph Johnson pulling his hair out as his Trojans struggled to keep their slim lead. Gordon Tate, with three for four from the foul line, and Darrin Tingey with two field goals, led the Trojans battle. But it was not enough as North Summit finally grabbed the lead in the final minutes. Krehl Brown hit a great shot to bring the Trojans within one point as the game fell within the last half minute. North Summit was unable to convert and the Trojans got their hands on the ball for the last time as Krehl Brown was fouled going to the basket. He then went to the foul line with South Rich behind one point and eight sec onds remaining in the game. Krehl had an opportunity to give his Trojans the lead but it was not to be as his foul shot attempt hit the front rim, and was rebounded by North Summit.
