Certificates of appreciation were held June 26 at the Davis School District auditorium. Awards were presented to individuals and businesses who have assisted the PARC program in the past year. Recognition was given in the areas of Individual of the Year, Parent of the Year, Business of the Year, Citizen of the Year and Employer of the year. Terri Christensen, a member of the PARC staff, said the ceremony is one way PARC has of thanking people and business of Davis County who have made contributions to the given to CareWest, Clearfield Manufacturing, C&C Wood Products, Farmer Jack Supermarkets, Jewel Craft of Utah, Lakeview Hospital, Oakridge Country Club and All American Gourmet Company. The Command Reach program at Hill Air Force Base received the Business of the Year Award. The difference between the Employee of the Year and the Business of the Year is that the employer takes a handicapped person into the business as an employee. The business brings work to the PARC in Clearfield to have it done at the Center. Command Reach contracts for handisort of parts and in other ways supports PARC. George Filkins was recognized as Individual of the Year. George is working as a custodian at Building 1299 Hill Air Force Base. He hasnt missed a day of work in a year and a half. He is a hard worker and a good example to follow. Individuals who received certificates of achievement include Gloria Perkins, David Hensley and Letha Dobbins. James and Helene Robertson who have been active in the Cen- - handicapped. Chuck Christensen of Bountiful was recognized as Citizen of the Year. He has used the handicapped since 1979 for mailing contracts. Mr. Christensen said the service the handicapped provides is excellent and a profitable situation for his company, Marketing Services. There is no spoilage. The workers are very careful. They are superior at doing repetitive-typ- e jobs. Certificates of appreciation were given to Merritt and Wanda Nielson, Lila Seely, J. Winslow and Marlene Young. PARC services handicapped adults 16 years and older in Davis County by providing occupational skill training, vocational training, work activities, employment services, vocational evaluation, social and personal adjustment training so that handicapped adults can function at their highest level of social and economic independence. There are 28 full time staff members. These people are assisted by volunteers who contribute 32LK) hours service annually.
