Show MAY 12, 1987 dDHcnttiuisiirv A. W. Sly dies at 80 Gayle Starks dies at 66 Day rites held lure. He was born July 8, 1920 in Clearfield, a son of Ellis W. and Alice Perry Starks. He married L. Margaret Smith Dec. 6, 1942 in Abbeville, S.C. The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He had lived in Utah all of his life. He graduated from Davis High School and attended Weber State College. He was retired city manager of Clearfield City and had been an automobile dealer. He was a member of the LDS Church. He had served a mission to the Southern States, served in the Elders Quorum presidency, served as a counselor in the Clear- field 4th Ward bishopric, was Clearfield Stake music director, served on the Clearfield Stake" High Council and was Kaysville 10th Ward music director. He was a member of the Clearfield City Council for eight years, mayor of Clearfield for four "years and was city manager for 12 years, retiring in 1983. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Navy. Surviving are his widow of Kaysville, two sons and two daughters, Steven Gayle Starks, Frazier Park, Calif.; Michael David Starks, Kaysville; Mrs. Skip (Mindy) Brant, Rome, Calif.; Mrs. Kenneth A. (Gina) Fahselt, Ogden; and 11 grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers and three sisters, Earl Starks, She married Sidney A.L. Sly Oct. 1, 1926 in Salt Lake City. The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She had been a bookkeeper for 35 years at the Woods Cross Canning Factory. She had lived in Burley, Idaho, and graduated from Burley High School. She moved to Clearfield in ALMIRA WALKER SLY Starks, Ogden; Arlene Klinefelter and Alpha Bender, both of Los Angeles, Calif.; Athea Peterson, Uintah. He was preceded in death by two daughters and one sister. Services were held May 2 at the Clearfield 4th Ward Chapel with Bishop Donald Kranendonk of the Kaysville 10th Ward officiating. Family prayer was given by Samuel D. Smith; prelude, Peggy The Old Rugged Cross and 0 My Father performed by Janet Ostler accompanied by Nancy Lundquist; invocation, Wilford J. Starks; remarks, Eckstein; Bishop Donald Kranendonk; speakers, John S. Smith and Elder Dean L. Larsen, presidency of the First Quorum of Seventy; benediction, Martin Smith. , Dedication of the grave was by Earl Starks with interment in the Clearfield City Cemetery. Pallbearers were Steven Starks, Michael Starks, Skip Brant, Willie Starks, Kenny Fahselt, and William Smith. Honorary pallbearers were Wayne Thornock, Charles Jenkins, Ross Kearl and William Turner. Funeral directors, Lindquists Clearfield Mortuary. Military honors were accorded by the American Legion Honor Guard. the Lindquists Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch. Pallbearers were Keith Brown, Mack Brown, Ben Brown, Kim Eichers, Jack Eichers and Arthur Eichers. She was a member of the Clearfield 1st LDS Ward and was an active temple worker. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary FOE No. 2472. Surviving are her husband of Clearfield; one son, Sidney Lewis Sly Jr., Roy; three grandchildren and three Services were held May 5 at the grand-childre- n great . YWMIA and Relief Society. She had served on the Sunday School stake board. She had been a dental assistant for many years. She had also been a dorm mother for the Deaf and Blind School in Ogden. She was owner of a taxi company during World War II. Blood. Dedication of the grave was by Mike Day with interment in the : Kaysville City Cemetery. She had lived in Layton for 60 years. She was an active member of the LDS Church, serving in the 1934. Grass Valley, Calif.; Wilford (Sherley) Wright, Ogden; and 13 Bemiece Robinson Day, 86, of 294 W. Gentile, Layton, died Thursday, April 30, 1987 at a Clearfield nursing home of causes incident to age. She was bom Nov. 19, 1900, in Mountain Green, to John Heber and Lenora France Robinson. She married Glen Day in 1921. The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He died in 1962. Almira Walker Sly, 80, of 485 E. 450 S., Clearfield, died Friday, May 1 , 1987 at a care center in Roy of causes incident to age. She was bom July 15, 1906 in Syracuse, a daughter of Fred C. and Eva Almira Call Walker. Bluff Road, Syracuse, died Monday, April 27, 1987 at Humana Hospital Davis North of a heart attack. She was born March 13, 1922 in Bradfordsville, Ky., a daughter of Andrew Thomas and Emma B. Weatherford Rakes. She married Vernon James Peterson Aug. 23, 1942 in Dunnel-loFla. The marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. She was reared and educated in Kentucky. She had lived in Florida for 29 years and in Utah for the past 16 years. She was a homemaker and active member of the LDS Church. She had served as Relief Society, YWMIA president and counselor in the Relief Society. She had also served in the name extraction prog-raand as a Sunday School teacher and visiting teacher. Surviving are her husband of Syracuse, two sons and three daughters, Ronald James Peterson, Orem; Myron Keith Peterson, Provo; Mrs. Douglas (Brenda) Ericksen and Mrs. Clyde (Barbara) Nichols, both of Kaysville; Mrs. Keith (Cheryl) Jackson, Middle-burFla.; and 10 grandchildren. Also surviving are four brothers and one sister, Delmont Kenyon Rakes, Kaysville; Kenneth Rakes, d Panama City, Fla.; Forrest Rakes, St. Petersburg, Fla.; Hershel Lamar Rakes; Logan; Wilma Ferreline Jarman, Lexington, Ky.
