But the fact that the Orem City Council cut its tax levy by 4.34 mills in 1967—thelargest reduction of any city in the state—to help offset the whopping valuation boost (for which the city had ne responsibility) should serve to inspire confidence in the administration and its program, Orem City has the property on which to build, thanks to farsighted planning and action of previous administrations. It doesn’t need to buy expensive downtown property as Provo must do in its current move fora cily center. Orem City officials have expressed faith in the community, its future, and in its continued growth. Webelieve they are justified in this. Whenthe voters go to the polls Tuesday, they will have an opportunity to do substantially the same thing—express faith in their community. Orem City has the potential to bea great city. It has made giant strides of progress over the years, Nowit is at a crossroads, with an important decision placed in the hands of the voters, themselves.
