You know the story tells how a man conceived the idea of creating a human being, how he did construct, a creature of human form and semblance, how (he succeeded in imbuing that creature with life but he couldn't put a soul into it and the thing turned out to be a monster whose only instinct was to destroy, to kill. r There are a lot of people in thiscountry busily engaged in creating such another monster and "Depression" is its name, people talk it, trunk it, accept it, make a iasnion oi it and make it worse. Business men refuse to buy for fear they will not sell so they cannot sell because they refused to buy. , People unhurt will not spend for fear they might get hurt and bring their chance of misfortune that much nearer. V Thus in many ways many people contribute their many parts to the structure of the monster that knows only how to hurt, rend, destroy. It has been well said that you can sell anything if you advertise it enough and talk enough about it and depression depres-sion has been weiradvertised and well sold. But Provo business busi-ness men are not advertising depression nor talking it up On the contrary they will tell you that business is good, thank you and, producing Jthe proof of what they advertise. Let's all do that way." The Wasters Chapters From the Amazing Story of Bureaucracy at Washington, D. Why this Easter celebration? There are no doubt a multitude of people who give very little if any at all thoug'iit to the importance import-ance of this day. We find of course that the date varies oach year, so we are not celebrating in the same month, nor the name -lay of each year. But that is of very little concern. It is what took place over two thousand years, ago, which connects us up, with vhis celebration tiat is of vital import-anceto import-anceto the world. This festival or celebration i3 held in commemoration of the "resurrection "res-urrection of our Savior called Pascha by the Roman and Greek churches. It is a moveable 'east occuring at any date between March 21 and April 25. It is Held about the same time as the Jewish Passover, or Paschal feast. ThS term Easter has been variously derived some taking it fro the Saxon-ioster7which--neans "to' rise" and others from the .name of a heathen goddess, Eostre or Ostara, whose rites the Savons were accustomed ac-customed to celebrate at this ilme of the year, and on account of which the month of April was styled Easter mont'ii in this calendar. cal-endar. Some ascribe its institution io the apostles, but the more general opinion, is that it was first'b served, by their immediate nucces-sors nucces-sors about 68 A. D. The oounci' of Aries in 314, and the council of Nicea.in 325 decreed that the day for keeping this festival should be the 14th day of the March moon. And by the alteration of the calendar cal-endar by Gregory XIII in 1583, J.ie first Sunday, after the lull moon immediately following the lst of March, was fixed as the day :or observing the festival. Thus we see why Easter sometimes romes in March and sometimes in April. George Washington rubbed his long canny nose on that one and decided that he wouldn't sign the declaration of independence; independ-ence; that business of signing was dangerous, a general leading troops in the field would have the honors of war even if defeated, he would not be hung as a traitor. The other day an American citizen citi-zen was shot down while frying a plane for the Chinese. Instead of being heralded as a hero he va,s branded, by implication, by the secretary of state of this count i-y as a traitor when the secretary of state, bless his dear, sweet-scented, big buslines:? soul, announced that no American citizen could volunteer volun-teer to assist either party to the oriental conflict because this country coun-try was neutral or something. Well, well and a t-ouple more welLs, also an ix'd laek-a-day thrown in. As I remember it one of the chief diversions of the young pat-jiots pat-jiots of this country was to join up with the French Lafayette flying squadron; to join with the Canadians; Can-adians; to enter the British flying corps; to go with the Australian or New Zealand contingents. Tho:;e lads were, and justly, regarded as heioes, leading the way to democracy democ-racy and righteousness and DuPont profits and everything. As- I remember it, this country was also neutral during those years before we messed in with the other fellow's business, and saved his hide, and got a kick in the pants, also the purse, for our foolishness. Yet I do not remember any secretary secre-tary of state calling those lads traitors. Maybe my memory iw growing weak; perhaps my recollection recol-lection has busted arches or some-thin', some-thin', but as I recall those lads were heroes. Like George Washington I wonder won-der just when is a fellow a patriot and when is he a traitorthe mysteries mys-teries of high diplomacy, like those of international banking, are a bit too occult for my crude, uncultured bean. personally I hold that the lad who crashed fighting for China deserves de-serves a congressional courage badge and no pro-consul, or any subservient secretary of state is going to tell me different. FINED FOR POSSESSION George Fox was fined $100 by Maurice Harding, city judge, in ihe city court Saturday morning for possession. If the fine is not paid, the judge stipulated, it may be worked out at the rate of one day for every dollar. He was placed in t'iie custody of County Sheriff i. G. Durnell and lodged in the county jail. Low-cost fuel gas may be made by fermenting hot distillery wastes. Altho there are more than SO species of .offee plants, only a fw are grown commercially.
