The club was organized March 5, 1891, with a membership of 10 women. It was the second women'i club organized in Utah, the second club to join the Utah Federa- tion of Women's Clubs and one of the first six to join in the Gen- eral Federation. The motto chosen was, They fail, and they alone, who have not striven." The programs have been based on the study of laws, history and progress of the U. S. and other countries including the literature and art of those countries. The club has made many toward the civic and con-tr?butio- ?M 'x&bj;;. i-- l&$0yO' " .4 w. 'K-- lt(-;- l so V ns cultural improvement of Provo. It now has a membership of 31 active, 10 associate, one life and 35 honorary members. The charter members have all passed away, but two members of long standing will especially be mentioned at the party. They are Mrs. Elizabeth Sutton, associate member; and Helen B. Thomas, life member, both Provo residents. Officers of the Nineteenth Century Club for this year are Mrs. L. F. Black, president; Mrs. James Faulkner, vice president; Of Florence Gallagher, corresecretary; Mrs. Philip Cemp, recording secretary; and vlrs. J. C. Halbersleben, treasurer. The program committee consists of Mrs. Pauline Shipman, Mrs. sponding Mrs. C. L. Waggoner and Mrs. Bessie Grimm; while Mrs. H. B. Mensel, Mrs. Clark Newell and Mrs. R. L. Reid are on the music committee. In charge of art are Mrs. W. D. Harrison, Mrs. H. E. Beaghler, and Mrs. Arthur Brown: and Mrs. A. W. McCoy, Mrs. Myron Fulrath md Mrs. James V. Mazurie are on the service committee. The civic committee includes Mrs. A. S. Cannon, Mrs. Helena Gease and Mrs. Grace Spear; and in charge of public affairs are Mrs. B. Goldsworthy, Mrs. H. H. Howser and Mrs. Helen Sutton. Other active members are Mrs. I. F. Cowan, Mrs. L. D. Free, Mrs. Helen Lyon, Mrs. W. Mrs. R. C. Street, Mrs. Alta Thomas, Mrs. Edith Vick, Mrs. Ray J. Coffey. Mrs. C. E. Jennlnfesof Salt Lake SUNDAY, MARCH 3, 1957 City was the organizer. Officers; were Mrs. G. W. Craig, president; Mrs. Electa Bullock, vice president; Me g. ASfen, Moretsap, and Mrs. Teenie Taylor, treasurer. At first the group met once a week, but now meets every two weeks. The motto is "Not failure, but low aim is crime." The object of the club was to promote the highest development of its members through any avenues of study or work that may seem profitable. There were 56 members belonging by the fourth meeting. The Utah Sorosis has lived up to its motto and aim through the years. The members themselves give most of the programs in the belief that nothing will develop a person more than giving an address to a group. Provo has benefited by the active projects sponsored by the club. Ptesent officers are Mrs. J.
