University of Utah crew 53 to 50 "and win the Western Division f track and field title. Utah State, the other team in the meet, com 0 piled a total of 41 points. It was iron man Brady . Walker who won thehneet for the Con rare. Brady heaved the Javelin 187 feet 1 Inch to pick up five points in the next ' to last event to put the meet on ice for the Cougars. AH in all. the lanky Nevadan ' had a busy day. He won the dis-" dis-" cus as expected, placed second in the shot put. and his unexpected ' victory in the javelin gave him 13 points for high point honors In the meet. The entire meet, 'as expected, . was very close, but it was evident from the middle of the meet on that BYU and Utah would bat tle it out for the team title. With only one. event left, the ; mile relay. BYU had 50 points. tUtah 43 and Utah state 4U, ana the Cougars had the meet, in the bag. Many of the events had unexpected unex-pected endings. Randy Clark, who had been doped to win the pole vault for BYU had trouble and went out at 12 feet, leaving Cliff cooper ot uian iosnpiniortmtee, unexpected points. Cooper tied for first with Rulon Jorgenson and Byron Young of BYU. It was an ideal day for a track meet, and the traek was lii .great shape, but no state records were broken, although al-though an enthusiastic croud of some 1500 persons yelled approval for the athletes, par-ticuarly par-ticuarly BYU. Jim Woodward of Utah came the closest to breaking a mark when he missed going over the bar as 6 feet 5 inches by a gnats eyelash. Woodward won the event with a leap of 6 feet 3 inches. The win gave the state track title to BYU, as all the dual meets had been won by one school apiece. South Wins Class A Track Title; Murray Cops Crown In Class B SALT LAKE, CITY, May 17 (U.R) Favored Murray high school rolled on to another easy track victory here today, adding the state Class B track title to its laurels, piling up 49 points, 18 points better than Springville and Lincoln which each had 31. Harold Norton of Springville was the individual star of the meet, piling up 24 points with first places in the shot put, javelin and discus for high point honors. , Murray scored in ail but six events in 'rolling up their triumph, and was ahead all the way. The crack Murray 880 relay team even came in for Unexpected points when it topped the record-cracking record-cracking quartet from Lincoln in thekhalf mile attraction. Payson high school was third with 24Vi points, 13 Vi of which were contributed by j Russ . Hill-man, Hill-man, who took firsts in the high hurdles and a tie for first in the high jump as well as running a lap on the mile relay team which won second place. The Manti high school doubles team of Stott and Hill "won the! state, doubles crown by defeating John Meyers and Orlin Wathen of Lehi, 7-5, 6-2. ' Both Hickman and Alder played play-ed cool, steady tennis throughout. After they had won the first set, they started eut impressively in the second, but feu behind, 5-4. Here Rockwood got in trouble on his service, and with the count, 30-40, Peterson hit the net as he followed up a kill shot, o the point end game went to Hickman-Alder. Hickman-Alder. Alder then came through to win his service, and placed a beautiful passing shot in the alley at "match point" as he and Hickman Hick-man broke Peterson's delivery to win the championship.
