Show Benefit Fete For Service Men's Lounge Big Success A rousing cheer for" members of the Provo Women's Council! Cooperation was at high gear all last week in preparation for the Friday morning "brunch" given at the Owen P. Heninger home as a benefit for the service' men's lounge the Women's clubhouse. Not every event of this kind draws a crowd of 330 women and nets a cash total of $245.50, and with more donations coming in from both individuals individ-uals and organizations. Cooperation, hard work and first of all, the spirit back of the project, and the brunch can be "checked off" as not only a highlight on the social calendar., but a decided financial success. Practically all of the food was donated either by wholesalers and retailers of Provo, members of the council and women of the? community. Chairs dishes. tablesis included in the total reported and many other articles, including includ-ing g1fts t he used as prizes all were donated. The huge living room of the Heninger home, as well as the garden were packed with small and beautifully decorated tables, and a profusion of summer flowers flow-ers added to the attractiveness of the pccasion. Guestr were greeted by Mrs. Victor Bird, vice president of the council and general chairman of the brunch; Mrs. Albert Ft. Taylor, Tay-lor, council president, co-chairman; Mrs. Owen P. Heninger, and the officers arid chairmen of the Various 'council sections. Other chairmen on the general committee were: Mrs. 6. P. Heninger, Hen-inger, Mrs. Albert R. The artist, Mrs. R. B. Bearden, gave a hand-carved table lamp Stand, and Mrs. Frank J. Earl donated one of her paintings, which were featured in an "extra" benefit, and netted 20.50 which "WITH ALL MY LOVE . . ." He knows he has all her love, just as she knows how much he thinks of her but his sending a bouquet of fresh-cut fresh-cut flowers has reminded her, just as it always brings such thoughts to the surface. Mrs. May Huntington of Spring-ville, Spring-ville, state art chairman of the federation, presented the large prize contest painting to the Council Coun-cil for making the greatest contribution con-tribution to art during the year. The painting is by Nellie May Manning Man-ning of Salt Lake City, and was received by President Baylor. Mrs. Pearl Woolf, council art chairman, expressed her thanks, also. -. Canyon Dinner For Employes Employes of the ready-to-wear department of Firmage's store were entertained by Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Taylor at their cabin in Wildwood, Provo canyon, Friday evening. Walace Wightmanr of Officers Naval Reserve has left for Columbia Col-umbia University, New York City, Vhere he will take his basic training. The open house will be preceded by a family dinner ior me ira mediate family. Both Mr. and Mrs. Hansen are lifelong residents of Spanish Fork, theV have been active in the work of the L.D.S. church. Their marriage mar-riage occurred in the old Salt Lake endowment house, Aug. jld, isw, the date being Mrs. Hansen's birth anniversary. Mr .Hansen is the son of the late James and Karen Anderson Hansen. He was born at Spanish Fork. He has been a successful farmer and livestock grower and has been active in community af fairs. He served as bishop of the Palmyra ward for eight years and is a high counselor of Palmyra stake at the present time. Mrs. Hansen was Lucilla Beck, and was born at Spanish Fork Aug. 15, 1873, the daughter of Alfred R. and Margaret Thomas Beck. She was educated in the schols of Spanish Fork and active in the auxiliary branch of the L.D.S. church. Of late years she has been an active Relief society worker. They are the parents of 11 children, four having died in infancy. in-fancy. Six sons and daughters are living, and with their wives and husbands will assist in receiving the guests. They are Reed, Blaine and John T. Hansen and Mrs. Lucilla Lu-cilla Jarvis, all of Palmyra; Mrs. Orlean Christensen of Salem, and Rulon Hansen of Provo. They have 25 grandchildren and 10 greatgrandchildren. great-grandchildren. An informal program will be a feature of the entertainment. ' Hostess At Club Fete Pinochle was played at the Sewaco club party given by Mrs Bertha Nielsen Friday evening at her home. Lunch followed. High score prizes went to Mrs. Hope Peay, and Mrs. Norma Hunter Hun-ter received the guest award. Women Aid Red Cross SPANISH FORK Although thev have no surgical dressing center in Spanish Fork, twelve women from here regularly attend the sufgical dressing center ai Springville and during the previous prev-ious ' week have assisted in the preparation df over 1100 bandages for Red Cross work. Members and the clubs they represented attending the past week who participated in this work included: Miss Eleanor Mat- ley, chairman of Spanish Fork Red Cross chapter; Minnie Christiansen, Chris-tiansen, Lydia Stanman and Wree Diehl of the Self culture club; Adelia Knudsen, Ida Anderson, True Dixon, Helen Partington of the Thalian club; Edna Smart of the Second ward Relief society; Mrs. Ella Frampton and Mrs. Lucy Hill of the Aglaian club; Mrs. Ruth BrockDank, the Alta club; Dora Stewart, the stake mutual board, and Mrs. Louise Robertson, the First ward Relief society. Many beautiful afghans are near completion and will be exhibited before they are sent to the hospital. SPRINOVILLE A larfre frroun of Spanish Fork women are assisting as-sisting at the local Red Cross surgical dresisng center, it was announced by supervisors Friday. With the help of the out-of-town workers, last Friday a total of sands of dressings have been made one session, which is a record at the center. Local women have responded to the call for volunteers and thousands thou-sands of dressing have been made since the project was begun here.
