So much so that on a suggestion of Grant C. Earfy last summer the announcement was made- that a company to be known as the Utah Coal Road Company would build a wide guage railroad from some point in Utah county to the vast coal fields of Carbon and Emery counties, in order to furnish an outlet from the great coal beds to the Pacific coast on the southwest. This road wa3 outlined by the company to go from the mouth of Spanish. Fork canyon direct into Spanish Fork city, where it would connect with the Salt Lake Route. As soon of as a large number of. citizens Provo learned of this intention, a meeting was called to discuss the advisability of asking the promoters of the new railroad to come to Provo with their roundhouse and' terminus and to make Provo the Junction w;lth other lines. President R. K. Irvine. Jr., of the Commercial club, called a meeting for the citizens of Prevo and a committee consisting of R. R.
