The car, a Ford sedan, was driven by George Talmage of Springville, and as they were traveling up the canyon near the entrance to the cave, the engine stopped and the car backed down off the road and turned turtle over the embankment. They also found a fine copper still of the Italian variety, but there was little of the wet goods left, the officers finding only a small quantity of white mule,, which they declare has a tremendous kick, to it. In consequence of the possession of th richest soils on the' American continent, according to the soil surveys of the geological department of the federal government, and the scientific methods of irrigation, the average yield per acre of sugar beets in our locality, thirteen tons, is the highest in the United States. The average yield of, wheat under irrigation is forty-si- x bushels per acre, of oats fifty bushels, and of barley forty-four bushels. We produced last year in Utah cunty 300,0(f0 tons of sugar beets which yielded the farmers over $3,- as 500.000, and produced one-fiftmuch sugar as the entire yield of the southern states. i The annual yield of our fruit and hay and grain, made certain by the principle of irrigation, runs into more than $5,000,000, while the products of, our canneries and foundries yield upwards of $2,300,-00and the mining proceeds of our county alone total more than a $3,000,000.
